brakes that deteriorate every 2 years.... the fact that it runs out of gas... my tires need air... the body rusts after 20 years, and last but not least, it was axed and saturn wasn't.

I guess something that is pretty annoying, is the passlock issue. I put engine problems, but really most problems are not in the engine, but the electronics (passlock, ignition switch, and the other stuff that goes wrong on all cars. The engines themselves are pretty reliable.

im gunna have to say lack of parts and mods. i have no real issues with the car i love it. i just wish there were more parts out there for it and they were more common. if the parts for them were more common they would probably be cheaper.

Well I would have votedfor lack of performance parts but they are out there, you just gotta know where to look, so I voted other.
Why, threads like this :rolleyes2:
"What do you mean I have to change my brakes in 2 years?!?!?!"
"What do you mean I have to change my oil?!?!?!"
"WHat do you mean I have to actually take care of the car?"
"What a piece of shit" :rolleyes2:

I said other, and other being just some of the absolute cheap, chinsey parts GM threw on the cars (like the window regulator clips, LIM gasket failure, and the brakes getting eaten up after a year or so). I mean, I generally like the car, but after replacing a part 8 times like I have my drivers side window regulator, it starts to wear on you and takes the good aspects of the car down a notch...

I went with engine problems cause no car is perfect.(i wish there was a option for all around mechanical quality.)
-4 total LIM 3 while i owned it
-3 wheel bearings (PREVIOUS THREE CARS NEVER CHANGED ONE AT ALL)
-brakes WAY to often
-each window i had to replace the clips
-just put in my third alternator
-my driver side mirrior took a crap about two years ago(still haven't fixed it.)
-blower motor resister
-oh and my rear defroster i found out today died again so this will be my second time replacing this.(thst SOB aint cheap either)
On a side note i am pleasantly surprised my shocks are still holding fairly strong for a ten years old car with 105K

well the tranny blew up what a pile of crap, but never mind the turbo or blower or needle dick behind the wheel doing burn outs every stop light

Passlock, propbably. Either that or the 3400 LIMG issue. Wheel bearings in third. That's about it.

I hate the lack of quality the vehicle was made with. The interior with the old man lines on the dash, and how you cant drop the back seat without pulling the string in the trunk. Only if there was an abundant number of 5 speeds out there aswell.
Headlights are okay except for us with the bodykits.
The performance is there and the aftermarket....just gotta know where to look.

I voted other. My only complaint about the car is the owners. Just refer to the above threads. Ken was sort of on the track I was thinking of.
Everybody complains about how little aftermarket support there is for the car, yet very few create anything new.
Everybody complains about maintenance issues, yet they probably blast over pot-holes Dukes-of-Hazard style, don't change fluids regulary, get a little noise and wait till it becomes a big noise to check into it/replace it.
But over all, the thing I love most about my Alero, is that it's mine, it's paid for, it blows away many of the high dollar sports cars, and I built/installed/created most of the performance mods that are currently on it.

hate that its missing a pedal..........errgg
Find a 5 spd.. if ya get one you can smile because it's kind of rare too.
I know someone on here was selling a 5spd this summer (I was gonna buy but the deal fell through on my side :( ).
If I remember right it was cutelilcntrygrl (or something likee that), shoot her a PM and see if it's still around.

I like the interior
yes, the back seat flip down release SUCKS
Power window problem? Isn't that what AC is for?
Blower resistor, shit the bed but I fixed if for $40, no biggy, same thing happened on my Durnago
ABS sensor, that was retarded, replacing the whole wheel bearing assemby for a little sensor. You should be able to change the senor alone
Breaks - suck. on hard stop they are toast
Overall, really no problems and it works just fine.

it looks just like a cup holder, if it's not they shouldn't have made it cup holder shaped?
and what the hell is it if it isn't a cup holder?
The only thing I could ask for is more power... but who doesn't ask for that in any car in this price range?

Its the Ash Tray holder. I understand that if you dont have an ash tray in your Alero, you can mistake that for a cup holder, but its way too big for majority of the cups.
For Myself, I voted for the back end taillights. Why did they have to make them so big? especially those in the trunk.

ashtray holder
spare coin holder
tissue holder (they make boxes shaped like it)
etc.
Why does everyone vote lack of mods/parts? There's a shitload of stuff available! Maybe not for the 3400... or you guys just aren't looking.

I'd like it better if it got better gas mileage. Like all cars built recently, the engine is at least 25% too big for it's own good. A hatchback instead of a trunk would have been an improvement.

my vote: needs 2 cup-holders in the front, not just the one. What if there's 2 people in the front and they both have drinks? one of them is screwed! (ie: passenger has to hold their cup lol)
also, on the aftermarket business.....yes, there is plenty out there, but because the 3400 isn't a popular engine to mod, and the Alero itself isn't all that popular to mod (in terms of body kits and other proprietary cosmetic stuff), the aftermarket parts are going to be quite a bit more expensive. That's my only gripe about the aftermarket.

Hey, at least the rear seats fold down.. I don't know what you're complaining about! To get the rear deck out of something (normally a fold the seats down endeavor) you need to remove the rear part, unbolt two big-ass and very tight bolts, then remove the entire rear seat part.
I WISH my rear seat would fold down. Same goes for Impalas, early 90's Cavaliers, etc.

Power... I just think with 3.4L even GM could have done a lil better. I mean cmon the 350Z has a 3.5L with 300 hp. If it was 200 hp stock for the V6 id be happy :P

2001 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 3400 with 105,000 miles on her.
Items Replaced Since I've owned her that are not regular maintenance.
Lower Intake Manifold Gasket.
Anti-theft sensor (whole steering column)Wheel Bearings (x2)
Power Steering Pump
Turn Signals don't work (hazard switch)
Windows don't roll down (regulators have been replaced 3 times motors twice)
Sunroof makes popping and grinding noises when I open it (so it stays closed)
Transmission seems to shift hard into second gear. (not sure whats up with that)
Fit and finish of the vehicle is shit.
Fog lights don't work.

Lack of add ons - to many things have to be custom and it makes for a stupid expensive car, that ends up being average. Don't get me wrong, I still love this car, it is just frustrating sometimes.

I Voted: Lack of aftermarket support, but for a BRAND that is no longer in production and was in low numbers to the "aftermarket type (see civic owner)" I like having to hunt or have custom one offs.
Secondly I dont see this as a list of problems, These issues give my ride character. If I wanted a reliable daily driver that looked like every other cookie cutter out there I know I could find it. This car just makes me think, what will have and issue next that I can improve. (Minus rust - yay southern states)

11-20-2008, 08:43 AM
yes there are aftermarket parts available.........maybe what we all should have said is that everything is stupid expensive......perfect examples of this for the 2.4 guys are jbodyperformance.com and induction-dynamics.com, both of which have some great products they are just ridiculously expensive.
$3,000 or more for a cylinder head, no other car out there is that expensive for the gain in horsepower received
and to those of you thinking about saying do it yourself, anybody can go get valves for any car.....how many of you have actually replaced the valve springs and retainers with something other than stock. I have tried twice now to buy the parts and both times have had my money returned because the parts are on indefinate backorder.
Jibbs.

the fact that the v6 only comes in auto, its cheap ass int, crappy backseat, drinks mad fuel, breakes wear constantly ummm front edge of the hood rusts (im in winnipeg) ----> really bad in snow haha
