fuse is good, power input hasn't changed, can a bad ground cause it to not turn on at all?

absolutely. if you can't complete the circuit, then electrons can't flow... (e.g no power)

so secured ground to a better spot and replaced the fuse and still don't have power to my head unit. any ideas? the power cable was not touched, it is connected to some brown wire next to the harness... best buy did that one several years ago.

So iyou lost power recently?

Did you just take it back to Best Buy to have them fix it?

Are you running an amp?

i am installing new speakers / amp... i ran new wires to the doors and sail panels and an RCA for the amp. None of the speakers or amp is connected at the moment. got it all wired up to the deck, connected the battery, turned on the car and the deck appears to have no power. I replaced the fuse on passenger side and ran a new ground. Still nothing, i noticed their is a fuse on the back of my stereo, can those be replaced? I can't figure out how to get it out.

my head unit is a sony CDX-GT200... install guide is here... http://www.docs.sony.com/release/CDXGT200_Installation_Guide.pdf
everything looks right, ANT REM and the yellow constant 12v are the only wires not connected to anything.

I was gonna ask if you checked the fuse under the dash or the one on the back of the head unit... Pull the one on the back as it's probably the culprit.

checked the one on the back of the stereo, it is clear, any other ideas? gonna grab a volt meter and check that wire best buy used for power, make sure it is providing enough juice.

does that 12V constant wire have to be connected?

i like this one better...

edit, wrong thread

i think you solved your own problem....

isn't the constant power only for if you want to have your stereo on after you turn your car off? the power it is connected to now kicks on when the key is in ACC so the deck should turn on then.

No the constant yellow is the main vessel for all power. Thats why its a larger gage wire.

That HAS to be connected.

12v constant has to be connected lol.. It doesnt keep the headunit on but it gives it power. the red 12v wire is so it does turn on.

so the red and yellow (both 12v in) need to be connected? where can I connect the yellow to get an always on connection??

the yellow should go to the yellow on your harness. the red for me had to be tapped into a fuse. I tapped into the ignition and fused that wire. if your harness has both wires and works. then just use that :\ match color to color haha.

already cut my stock harness out, any other ideas? can I run it to the fuse panel on passenger side or anything like that?

Wow, nice catch guys... I didn't even notice that in the original post... (yeah I know here comes an old joke from Ryan lol).
Anyway, the constant 12V can go to anything that is constant 12 volts... including the battery, but if you wire it that way get an additional inline fuse for it.

you can splice it into the side fusebox, if you need to. just get some wire connectors and a fusetap, for godsake. don't just cram the wire in under the fuse!

why would you cut your stock harness.. Yes you can tap a fuse but buy a fuse tap and some wire connectors

I would have tested the radio before I put it in...ie hook the ign and constant +12 of the radio to the + side of the battery and the black to chasis ground and see if it turns on if so then its the wiring that is the issue and not the radio....process of elimination!

:haha: that is what i was thinking. I think the 10 dollars for a harness is worth it :\

Especially when you go to sell it and cant put the factory radio back in.

When you go to sell a car people back away fairly quick if the stock radio isnt in it.

 Especially when the aftermarket radio doesn't work either.

The car isn't going to be sold, it is mine tell it dies for good. I cut the wire harness out because with the new speaker wires run to it the area behind the deck was getting mighty cramped and I have no plans on ever using the stock wiring again. Also, cutting out the harness and splicing right to the deck eliminates a set of splices which I generally consider to be a good thing. Also, my Alero is a salvage and didn't come with a stereo, so I won't ever be swapping in a stock one.

so... connect that yellow yet?

i'm eager to see if thats the easy fix...

Of course it is :haha:

Can anyone tell me how to replace the speakers in my Doors? I can run all new speaker wire if it is required(I have the monsoon system) :'(.
Like how to do I get to the speakers behind the doors. I know how to do the 6x9s. And yes I will be using an amp not the HU to power them.
Yes I am hijacking your thread.

ya, when i cut the wire harness out I just put wire nuts on the wires, taped it up and stuck it next to the glove box. So I dug that out, spliced to the correct wire and it works great. However, my tang band speaker came today and I was an idiot and didn't realize that each speaker is sold individually because they are technically a woofer, oh well, get to make sure it fits and sounds decent before I buy another one. one other question, when I turn my car off my 4x6's produce a series of beeps, is that a normal Polk thing or they telling me something?

to get the door panel off you pop out the reflector on the door and a plastic piece behind the handle and remove the screws behind them. then take a flat head screw driver, I start from bottom left, and pop out the tension bracket things all the way around the door panel. to detach it from the window sill just lift up, you will also have to disconnect the connects for door locks and windows and stuff, just use the screw driver to push in the clips and then pull the wire plugs out. If you plan on using an amp for your tweeters and 4x6s you should be able to splice into the wires that run from your monsoon amp to your speakers. You can dig around for a wire guide and when you have the panels off just look at the wire colors.
