Little Question about engines... lets say i have a 2.4L i blows up... what are my options ?! Meaning in getting something alittle stronger... the 3.4 V6 ? the aurora V8 ?! the Corvette v8 ?! what could fit ?!... but lets forget cutting and stuff... something that would be easily installed...

thanx

the biggest you could fit with some minor and major modifications would be a northstar V8...I believe the aurora v8 would also fit, but I think it's the same as the northstar....

i think he means a basic "drop-in, yank-out" type, so to speak. The 3.4 for sure, and i think the 3.5 (Intrigue) would slide right in, but to do either swap, you'll need the transmissions for those engines, and that's probably where it'll get the most expensive. Anything bigger will need fabrication.

^as stated above plus the pcm/ecu, basically the whole wiring harness from the donor cars
or just buy boost for the stocker

Ecotec with forged internals and 30 psi of boost
Mate that with a getrag with High capacity clutch, and LSD/forged internals

Should keep ya happy

I think GM or somebody has like an "LD9/Roots SC" combo somewhere. Direct bolt up with 262 S/C horses under the hood. No messy tranny swap.

What I would do since you can defenitly fit in the 3.4 liter engine is put in the 3.8 supercharged engine alot more powerful than the 3.4 liter and alot liter than the northstar v8 which may be to large. but in any case you would need the full wiring harness for the car basically and its computer. So ahve a fun time if you do it :)

For the 3.4 and 3.8 yes you would need the trannys... unless you went to a 5spd... then it wouldnt matter

Sportalero is right^^ GM performance parts has a s/c for the 2.4, and any dealership can flash the ecu right from the factory serial #;s provided for it

I'd be willing to ditch my stock 3.4 for a S/C 2.4 powerplant. 262 horses plus room for even more upgrades. I'd rather have a brand new engine with a S/C already bolted on than to add one to 80K engine. Did you happen to find a price on it, J?

That's the same thing i saw, but it's not quite what i'm talking about. They're just offering the S/C, whereas what i was talking about is the S/C and the engine. At least i think that what i read in my issue of SuperStreet.

Put a 3.5 intrigue engine in and get the supercharger for it. Easy power and just a little lighter than the 3.8 supercharged. The 3.5 has more power supercharged than the 3.8 too. (250hp)

 I donno where you guys got the idea that it's 262 horses, but it only puts out 190HP, nowhere near 262HP, and that's not at the wheels either, it basically gives you but 40HP. Sure you can get a smaller diameter pully and a free flowing exhaust, "secret" cam swap, larger throttle body etc etc for pretty good power, probably close to that 262HP number, but the M45 supercharger that they use is too damn small to put out high amounts of boost, maybe 10psi max and you can't intercool it, either...

I personlly wouldnt bother doing up annother 2.4.... i mean the one that he has allready blew up.. and it has been proven that the 2.4 in stock form isnt nearly as strong as the eco... and besides all the aftermarket parts are allready out there for the eco to make 300+Hp without issues...
That would be my personal choice... unless i had the cash to go 3.8s/c with 5spd... cant beat that :D

Plus i mean within the year i beleave the S/c and Turbo eco crate motors should be availble.

"Plus i mean within the year i beleave the S/c and Turbo eco crate motors should be availble."

Now BLK is talking about what i'm talking about. The engines come S/C and T/C from the factory. This is the 262 hp S/C 2.4 powerplant i was speaking of.

Yea.. it seems that ppl foget that the 2.4/Ld9(i think thats what it is) and the eco are diff.. and there is a 2.4 eco comin out. that would be the motor to get... or destroke a 2.2 and boost the sheeeeit outta it..LoL

I wouldnt rebuild a 2.4LD9, but thats me... unless you were just plan'n on gettin milk, n poop from down the street...

^^Yeah, i think that's where i got it twisted. Not the LD9 2.4, but the Eco 2.4. I'm thinking those will be a direct swap. Not sure of the trans.

I would still go with the 3.8L motor if you are going to switch out. They are easy to come by and probably a sinch to hook up just ask anyone that has done it in a Beretta which is a, I will say a older sibling to the Alero. Plus there are 3.8 liter motors with up nere 250 horsepower at the fly wheel mind you. The Hp depends on what you get the engine from Gm detunes most of them for some stupid reason but I htink the hightest horse power 3.8 is eaither the SS Impala or the Grand Prix GTP the Monte Carlo SS has the gimp version only 205 hp or something like that.

Personally I ahve the 2.4 liter LD9 motor if I ahd a chance I would throw the RSMRACING.com 90hp version supercharger on it and it would spank any stock or close to stock Gm Supercharged motor becuase it is so light.

But that is just my opinion

But to put in a 3.8, he would have to change the trans and PCM. He's talking motor ONLY............I think. He didn't really specify
