You're talking about these guys: http://www.discounttire.com

We used to use their retail outlets all the time back in the day before there was the interwebs, no complaints.

Yes, i bought one of my hankooks there (after 2 other ones went to shit on me), because they have a life time warranty on the tire. If something happens, ship the tire to them, they send a new one.

It took me a few days to get the tire, its a good site to buy from ;)

really? that would be great they can save me a 100 dollars compared to tirerack. what sucks though, they don't say weather or not the tire is in stock :/ i hate when websites don't do that.

I bought my rims and tires from them. They are a good company they just process orders in a crazy way. You order your wheels, they call you in 24-72 hours verify that they have everything and that you are satisfied with the selection and then authorize the charges and send out your tires. The whole process took about two weeks to get my rims and tires at my doorstep.

i never got a call or email. number still disconected but i got my tires still so im happy. just took double the time they claim. too much psi can make a ride more rough right? anyone know the factory recoomended psi on our aleros? v6 if that matters.

I think its 32 all the way around, but to know for sure its posted in the manufacturers sticker on your driver door sill.

irondiezl3
02-10-2009, 02:02 AM
please tell me the door sticker can be wrong? pick a website any website that sells tires, pick a local shop any tire shop, even better pick a gm dealer any gm dealer. they all have one thing in common, 2004 olds alero tire size, 215 60 r15. all of them. thats the size i bought and had put on today. im drivng thinking man why is this driving so wierd. did i get a bad tire, mounted balanced wrong. so i checked them both were fine. checked my tire pressure fine. as i look at my door for reccomended pressure i discover this, tire 205 65 r15. wtf is that about. how can every single website shop and gm dealer be wrong? what is my car some random freak of nature designed for different size tires?

Cliff8928

205/65R15 (RPO: QMR) was an effective change for the 2004 model year starting with production on 6/30/03. Earlier models had 215/60R15 (RPO: QCD)

irondiezl3

so what do u think i do nowthey r already mounted

CactusWill
02-10-2009, 03:43 AM
Theres only a slight difference between those 2 sizes. Is the car really not handling right now?

corners great ride very rough looks like tire is almost hitting strut but idk maybe thats normal. so wierd if all aleros r the same frame how does the tire size change on certain 2004s

discount tire direct and www.tires.com are the same thing.

I got my rims and tires from their store down the street from my house and have gotten rims/tires for several different cars there over the years. You can't beat the customer service they provide. I went in to get the rims/tires for my Alero and the guy said he had to order them and it would take a couple of days. He found them at another store and had them ready for me the next day. I went by after I got off work and he had them installed on my car in like 30 minutes after I pulled into their parking lot. Also, they will do flat repair at any of their stores nation wide. You can't beat Discount Tire, IMHO

Oh,and they'll price match too

Who knows why it changed mid production. They got a better deal on the other ones? There were other cars that used that size? They're basically interchangeable anyways. If you have the 215s it should be no problem at all. My tires are really close to the strut too.

CactusWill
02-10-2009, 02:35 PM
Yeah the space inbetween the strut and the tire doesn't matter, as long as its not touching. When the wheel moves up and down, the bottom of the strut moves in unison so that little gap size never changes.

so i checked vin out mine was produced in june so thats why went to few local shops all said its ok to minimal to matter in size makes me feel better but. these tires really blow. i cant believe everyone said these were so good on the web. the handle great but i feel like im driving on rocks. i thought bad balance and pressure but rebalanced still garbage. i tried lowering tire pressure still garbage. i can try raising pressure but im assuming that will make it worse.

Exactly what tire did you buy?

irondiezl3
02-10-2009, 09:46 PM
general altimax hp. they suck. 313 9 out of 10 reviews online. 2 local tire shops here dunn tire being one of them said its their best seller and customers have nothing but good things to say. i had them rebalanced checked for bad belts. wow i believe someone here said do not buy them i should have listened those 313 people online are completely insane and obviousley never had a great tire.

CactusWill

Dude... You bought tires from a no name online retailer that doesn't even answer the phone... How do you know those tires couldn't be defective or maybe even a chinese counterfeit? Theres nothing wrong with those brand and model of tires, theres something wrong with either YOUR set of tires or something wrong with your car.

irondiezl3
02-10-2009, 11:05 PM
had the car inspected today for any issues. shop said car is perfect. ive tried every psi from 28-41 no difference. im so pist. how do you get a bad set of tires that are brand new. there no way im overreacting right? i mean vibrating and rough ride cant be normal. its not extreme but my other tires goodyear integrity which on paper is inferior in everyway was like driving on silk compared to these. idk ive never had a performance oriented tire before maybe i just dont know thats how its supose to be. or maybe the 21560 does matter compared to 20565?

CactusWill
02-10-2009, 11:23 PM
What size was your last set?

irondiezl3
02-10-2009, 11:27 PM
last set was integrity 205 65 15 these are 215 60 15. general altimax hp

The new size is lower profile and has wider tread than the old one. Its going to have a sportier feel.

i called place i bought them from they swear its from poor balancing says they have sold thousands of these tires and only had one complaint on the comfort ride. he said there are different types of balancing and if you go the cheap route thats all it takes.

CactusWill
02-11-2009, 04:46 PM
Maybe thats the explanation then. It has to be something, because everyone knows these are good tires.

just went to dunn tire. one of best around here. 3 of out 4 were severe out of balance. 32 dollars later guess what. o yes now its 3 times worse then is was before. can you believe this shit. im ready to flip. i called general they said you have a 45 day warranty through us. bring it to any local retailer they have to replace all four even if nothing is wrong with them. i said ok i found a authorized retailer you know what they said basically go f*ck myself. isnt this a great story the saga continues...........................

These are directional tires, so make so that they are all mounted in the right direction.

irondiezl3
02-16-2009, 04:26 PM
lol ok local shop says its because the rotors on my car have warped spot causing me to think the cars vibrating. dont get that my other set of tires were on last week no vibrating. his response was whoever mounted them must have over torqued the wheels on? wtf is he talking about is that normal or a whole bunch of bs?

CactusWill
02-16-2009, 08:30 PM
That is true, but it usually takes longer to happen than just a day or two. Although I'm not really sure how vibration pertains to your situation, if all you're saying is just that the tires ride bad.
