ok. so my door's 4X6 speaker on the driver side is crackling bad. i bought some Pioneer TS-G4642R speakers from Best Buy today for $50.99 with a ton of gift cards. my question is, are these speakers at least as good as the stock speakers? i love my music but don't want to invest a totally new sound system in my car. Thakns alot for info!
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/Speakers/4+x+6+Speakers/TS-G4642R
"Our TS-G4642R 4” x 6” 2-way speakers handle 100 watts max. power and feature Pioneer’s extremely strong and lightweight IMPP™ Composite Cone Woofer, for improved sensitivity and reduced distortion. The High-Energy Strontium Magnet (woofer) and Aramid Fiber Damper deliver higher power handling and deeper bass, and the 1-3/16” Film Cone Tweeter offers great performance on high frequencies.
The TS-G4642R’s are designed with a custom-fit US/European-compatible basket."

hah.. i got those same speakers. nice crisp highs, and they seem to do pretty well with the mids, try to keep lows off of them lol, if you got a sub you'll be fine.

yeah, lows are violent on them
TheEdgeofSanity
02-16-2009, 05:39 PM
so they're better than the stock speakers? on a scale of 1 to 10, how hard are they to install?

pulling the door panel and plastic off is harder than puttin those speakers in.. i even popped the speaker grills off the door panels so i could see the speakers lol

i put pioneers in the front of my car yesterday (alpines in the back, woohoo!). mine sound really good, but mine were $80.. booo. but yeah, it's really easy to do. probably the easiest car i've actually put speakers in.

I think the terror alert level is about to go up w/ this here threadjacking.
99alerogirl your sig says you have a mono amp (same as mine actually) which I assume is for subs. Do the 6x9's in the back really do anything for you? I'm running subs and comps only, but have considered adding 6x9's for that extra bit of ear damage.

yeah, the amp is just for my sub. i just got the 6x9's yesterday, and so far they're pretty kick ass. haha. my head unit is just 50x4, and all i've listened to so far on them is the fray. i mainly just got them because my 10 year old stockers were cracking and popping a lot. as far as more bass? they definitely have more than the stock ones did, but i wasn't looking for much, since my sub puts out more than enough for me. they do put out quite a bit though without an amp, since they're alpines i guess.

Must be a 15" to need that kind of power. Maybe I'll get some 6x9's towards next winter.. Some of my passengers complain about the base and you just cant listen to music with them turned off and only the comps running.

i have a stock headunit and don't plan to get an aftermarket. so, is there a trick to getting the door panel off without breaking the clips? also, are the connectors plug and play or do i get to re-wire things?
[ion] C2
02-16-2009, 08:50 PM
the clips don't break
connect plug & play IIRC. who cares if you need to cut and rewire, you'd just be stripping two wires, twisting and taping them up
cherrington17
02-16-2009, 09:03 PM
i think hes talking about the little green clips... and no. they break, just move the remaining ones around to be sure you have one on each corner. the 3 big screws hold it well enough anyway.
99alerogirl
02-16-2009, 09:08 PM
yeah, just don't do what i did yesterday and not think to look for the screw behind the reflector:ninja: ... almost ruined my door panel.

ok, so me and chris (ionc2) are trying to figure out how you know if you have the factory upgraded sound system. is there a special code on the build sheet that would say so? also, where would the factory amp be if it is installed on my car?
99alerogirl
02-16-2009, 10:01 PM
in my sebring i had a factory amp, and it was mounted in the trunk on top, between the speakers. i don't know in the alero though!

no we aren't, i thought you already found out you don't have it

I've read a couple times the monsoon amp is behind the carpeting in the side of the trunk @ the back. Carpet comes out in 2 seconds if you need to look.
guiguilandry
02-16-2009, 11:27 PM
yeah amp is in the trunk, left side behind the carpet, it is a black box with monsoon written in red on it, if i remember correctly. It is bolted to the inner part of sheet metal, the amp itself is between that said ''inner sheet metal'' and the skin of the quarter, it is supposed to have a connector with like 16 wires or more.

now when i want the panel off, i just yank on the inside door handle and it comes right off.. my car needs some serious restoration done

summer lol
also i never knew there were 4/6/8 speaker variants...
i thought all aleros had 6 (two in front doors, two in rear deck, two tweets near front windows)
where's the 8 speakers go?
cherrington17
02-17-2009, 12:08 PM
sometimes they count 2/3/4/5 way speakers as each "way" being an individual speaker.
so if they have standards w/ a pair of 2way speakers up front then tweets up top... thats your 8
99alerogirl
02-17-2009, 12:12 PM
so wait, where do you find this UQ crap?
cherrington17
02-17-2009, 12:13 PM

on the "build sheet" wherever that is.
inside trunk?
inside door?
99alerogirl
02-17-2009, 12:21 PM
hmm... ok. well if my car were sitting here next to me i would look, but i guess it's gonna have to wait a couple hours. DANG. and i don't think i know what a build sheet is (noob). is that the same thing with my tire pressure and everything? maybe not.. maybe i'll just rip up the carpet and look for the amp.

Mine does not have the separate tweeters from the factory.
sometimes they count 2/3/4/5 way speakers as each "way" being an individual speaker.
so if they have standards w/ a pair of 2way speakers up front then tweets up top... thats your 8
The 8 speaker system actually has 8 individually driven channels as well. There's the front door mid-ranges, tweeters, rear deck "subwoofers" and tweeters.

It's on the Service Parts Identification Label on the underside of your spare tire cover.

sooo basically it would just be easier to look under my carpet, since i have a 20 pound sub that is a pain to get out of my trunk sitting on top of my spare tire.

thread jack here, but uhm is 500 rms 10 inch subs good? and what kinda amp power should i need ie 1400 watt amp. Cus thats the one im running now a 1400 watt amp to a 330 rms 10 inch. Or maybe a suggestion for a better amp/ sub set up,
cherrington17
02-17-2009, 02:54 PM
i can barely read any of that.
slow down... and try again.

Lmao ok, sorry was in a hurry to get home from school. Ok im looking to upgrading my sub, Right now i have a 1400 watt Boss Amp, and i have it running into a 330 rms Sony Xplode 10 inch sub with a Max power of 1,100 watts. I wanna upgrade it to maybe a 500 rms subs but i wanna know if its even worth it and what i should get and need to get to run the system etcs.
cherrington17
02-17-2009, 03:06 PM
essentially... get an amp that closely matches your subs. RMS - RMS Peak - Peak.
going from 330-500.... not so sure you'd really notice a MAJOR difference. unless the 500 has much better clarity.
Dhoyle
02-17-2009, 03:10 PM
im kinda a cheapo but i like planing things out *as you can see with my other threads* uhm what kind of RMS should i go for it want to start doing competions *just a thought*
Misuseofyou
02-17-2009, 07:07 PM
Cheap gear and competitions don't really jive. Get a nice DVC sub that matches your current amp, or prepare to lay out a grand minimum.
cherrington17
02-17-2009, 08:47 PM
you can't do competitions cheap.
talk to ryan, or FI-alero is you want to know about setups required for comps
Dhoyle
02-17-2009, 11:11 PM
err sorry i ment the system i have now is cheapo since im learning, i didnt want to go screw up like a $200 or more sub. Lols i really need to go back to my english class and study grammar i think lols.
Misuseofyou
02-17-2009, 11:50 PM
Well I don't know anything about competitions, but I have two 12" subs @ 300w rms each and they shake my car pretty good. Nothing like a smoke break with full body massage at work.

cherrington17
02-18-2009, 12:14 PM
i'm not sure what comps he was doing... but 440 is SMALL
competitions usually require you to be in the 120dB bracket, if not higher. you'll never make that with 440rms.
Dhoyle
02-18-2009, 02:23 PM
oh well he said the set up he was using got into the 134db and he could never get it over that, he said that was back when he was my age (17-18) hes 27 now. But anyways what do you guys suggest i go with then, im open to ideas and any info tips you can give me etcs will make me very thankful

02-18-2009, 02:34 PM
as i said before... for high power.. contact ryanfromohio or Fi-alero. they seem to have the most knowledge in the field.
Fi-alero actually does comps w/ his car.
if i tried helping any more, i'd be giving you biased(possibly false) info.
