okay so i read how to put LED lights in your cup holder but my alero doesn't have the removable rubber part, its just a solid piece of plastic molded to the center counsel. anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

drill a small hole in the bottom, and mount leds in that?
does your plastic have a small hole in the bottom? yours might have just had the rubber ripped outta it.

um why not? where do you think you were going to run the wires with an LED on the bottom of the insert? they'd end up going through the inside of the console anyway.... or were you just going to have wires coming from your cupholder out the top visibly

there are DEFINITELY several wires inside my console... tons, as a matter of fact.
this stuff doesn't glow by magic!

You for rent at Ass Cherr?
Won't be at ASS. too much other stuff going on, and projects like these take WAY too long to do at one get together.
hence why i make HOW TOs. so you can figure it out, and take your time doing it.

I would think you just drill holes in the cup holder, poke the LED bulbs through from the bottom, then wire them up to either the shifter light, or run it to a switch.
cherrington17
02-28-2009, 02:05 PM
thats exactly what you do.

Basically yeah. Except I wanna use my adjustable cup holder that mounts to the stock cup holder. It'll hold a water cup or a small, maybe medium bucket. Cherry is my boy for LEDs. But I think adjustable waterproof (since it'll hold super bladder busters) might be out of his usual requiem.

I was thinking of doing this cup holder LED thing... drilling the holes, placing some blue LEDs in, and possibly cutting out and glueing in a plastic or plexyglass circle to cover the LEDs from possible water damage. Some cups tend to leak water and other drinks....

No need for the plastic disc if you mount your leds right in the center piece. Just drill holes in the rubber. Silcon and hot glue will not smooth over the top of this. You shouldn't be worried about liquid after hg or siling the bottom but a tiny bit of something watery would work best. You're more likely to colect water under the plastic circle
than the leds.

i put a bead of epoxy over mine (so its even with the rubber) and i've had absolutely NO water/moisture issues.
little hot glue around the contacts seals them pretty well.

So I think I understand how to wire LEDs to get them to work...finding a power line in my car seems beyond me though. Splicing it into the fuses?
cherrington17

no. get a mini blade fuse tap from an autostore.

This thing is freaking bright! Anyone know of something and somewhere that can dim the beam on this LED?
jhubbz
04-22-2012, 10:59 PM
Led's don't tend to dim very well. You have to buy dimmable ones. They are very unlikely incandecents where the amount of energy running through the filament decreases, therefore making it dimmer. LEDs just want to shine and that's it lol

You need to make a roll of these led lights and then fit it inside the cup
