View Full Version : Q Form like kick panels

Ok as some of you know I will be producing some kick panels very similar to the over priced Q Forms.
Mine will be slightly different than the Q Forms.
First and foremost they will be made of fiberglass.
Next the speakers will not be recessed down into them. There will simply be a flat pad to cut out and mount to.
Next there will be a wood backer- so you have some "meat" to run screws into.
The Q Forms I have in front of my are simply hard plastic. I dont think they are a horrible product, but for $170 I sure as hell would expect more.
Whats over looked and not mentioned:
You will have to cut your panel where these mount. There is a lip and the plate needs to be cut so it can accept the plate. So if you intend to use these you will make modifications that are not reversible.

Or make the whole door trim on the 4 door for the front driver, and I'll buy it from you.

I've already expressed my interest in these! What about adding a tweeter pad?

there you see the tweeter pad lonnie. Also where about you would have to cut your factory trim. The lip on the Kick panel fits under it then.
Andyes its obvious they dont fit 100% over top the factory trim. Thats why they are sticking out to the side!

Damn could they pick a worst color then that...LOL. I don't see a problem with it not being recessed..it makes them alot easier to make which is alright by me. I see the tweet pad which is nice to have if I want to add them now or later. Sounds like a plan! If you can extend the back so that it is flush with the stock trim I would leave it right on top like that, and just cut the notch at the end off and blend it into it. Any other ideas?

damn. those were shallow... sheesh! what were they thinking?
so what holds it in place, other then the trim? i'm thinking w/ a decent speaker in there, that thing will be vibrating all over the place?

Tim, 1 screw and I think its some asphalt base caulk like stuff. Like the back crap they use on the clear plastic inside our doors...

And when I bring the front flush instead of recessed in, 6.5" outside diameter maximum.
Im going to have to rework these to get the larger size. Think I will mold these FIRST and keep them stock. Then rework a fiberglass plug for the other set of molds.

Wow they charged 170 for that.....Rip Off indeed. Its nothing there, and I can see the need for reenforcement.I'm wondering what the mount depth is on those, I should be good with 2.6 to 3 inches. This is going to be a good project. I can see me getting two sets of those sound stream ls652 that cherry picked up.
on a side note have you guys seen the new soundstream stealths...a 13" subwoofer...and get this..mounting depth is 2 freakin inches....Damn! Thats nice!

Style as pictured is for 5.25" speakers with 2.5" mounting depth.
The other style Im going to do will take a 6.5' speaker 3" depth.
They are $140-145 on Hi Fi sound Connections site... But still way over priced.
Oh and these will all fit the Grand Ams 99-04 :D

Thats great...so what do you think materials will cost for a set of these? I will pay more to have the trim side extend flush with the stock trim...speaking for myself of course I'm leaning toward not cutting my stock trim pieces, but I can still make this work!

Im talking about moving the edge marked by black arrow flush to the red line and possibly not having the tab marked by the black arrow at the bottom not even on there...but I guess if I'm going to mold the two together then the I could screw it down at that point and mold over top of it....Just thinking out loud here!

Similar.
You chop off so much of your stock, 1 screw up top then the stock piece holding it in also.
I got a PDF install guise I will upload tonight.

Its going to look the same way...you're not going to be able to use the foot rest. Should still have plenty of room around the pedals though unless you have boats for feet...LOL

I like the part where you have to remove the molex connector... I don't think all that is necessary to be honest.

I dunno. I will have to dive into it one of these days...lolYeah I here that! I know this will probably take some time so I'll just keep an eye on this thread for any progress...I'll be honest that I wouldn't mind getting some of the first sets that you make, so if you can update your thread as to the progress. Thanks!

Cool beans! Is that the one you started a thread on a few weeks back? I don't remember seeing anymore talk on it?
