I like to get more brightness out of my headlights right now I have a pair of sylvania silver star headlight bulbs they are white but they seem not to brighten the road as much I like, should I replace my bulbs with brighter ones or HID?

Are your headlights out of adjustment? Mine with stock bulbs are plenty strong...

brighter generally means higher Wattage. Higher wattage means more heat and power. our housings arent meant to use high wattage bulbs. First thing that'll happen is your wire harnesses will melt. secondly, you housing could.

go HID. use the power more wisely and reap better/brighter results.

Also, keep in mind w/ HID, the higher number means they are more colored, thus meaning less visible/useable light. Brightest is 4300k (but its yellowish) 5000k is really bright and still white.

So, are hids like REALLLLLLLLLLLLY bright without proj's? Because the cops around here are dickheads, and I don't want to be causing any accidents

projectors dont make them any brighter, they just prevent glare to oncoming drivers when your not directly in front of the car

I too am looking into HIDs for my '02, just a couple of quick questions to clarify things...

Normally HID's are put in place of the low beams?
Is there a way to switch the wiring at the combo controller on the steering column so that the HIDs turn on when the Brights are supposed to be on?

Thanks,
Eric

Thanks for the info... just to clarify tho, if I replace the high beams, I would have to Disable my DRLs... or is there a way to make the lows run as DRL

heineck
03-12-2009, 10:28 PM
umm nah mine are hooked up to DRLs its just plug n play

Misuseofyou

When your DRLs are on, they're getting a lower voltage than normal operation. You'll end up burning out your ballast.

my hids dont turn on till night time, their the yellow center lights during the day

certain years use a small output of the high beams as DRL's, others use low beams.

You have an 02, so your lows are the DRLs. I assume you're saying you have HID high beams?

heineck
03-13-2009, 01:06 AM
nah, during the day the center light in the middle are on. not my highs but at a low voltage and when it gets dark enough my hid's that are in the 9006 spot turn on. ill post pics so u can see what im sayin at night my gauges light up and my HIDs come on.
