My intake came with an S & B filter, and its starting to get a little dirty. Its a lifetime filter, and I'm wondering if a K & N filter charger kit will do the trick, or if they are somewhate specific. If so i might just throw the damn thing out

i agree.... the cheaper filters will get you by at first but when they get dirty trash it, instead of spendind the money on the charger kit, put the money towards a new filter and go k & n

Um, no offense, but K&N just has the filter market by the nuts. They're really not any better than cheap cone filters at all.... they just cost a lot more. But, if you want to spend the money go ahead.
But yeah, get yourself a K&N filter cleaning kit, as they will work fine fore most cone filters.

I disagree. Look closley at the cheapos and the K+N together. Sure...they LOOk the same, and have the same design with wire mesh, but look at the actuall filter paper. The K+N is woven diffrently and you can clearly tell its breathable.....all the cheapos Ive seen, its just regular paper filter material inside, pretty much no diffrent from paper in your stock air filter...only they color it to make it look appealing.
Now Im just goin by the cheapos Ive seen at places like auto-zone and such. Maybe others are better, I dunno. But a K+N is what 50-60 bux??? That aint poop this day and age, thats like a tank and a half of gas! I recommend the K+N.

You can make paper as expensive as you want, but it still does the same thing.
If it filters 99.9% of all the crap that would go in to your air stream, why does it matter what it is made of? If it works the same, and it looks as good, why pay $60 when you can pay $15?
I'm not saying that the K&N filters aren't higher quality, I'm just saying that it doesn't warrant a 400% + increase in price.

The K&N aren't paper at all, unlike the cheapo ones i've seen. They are actually a cotton fabric. Which will stand up to cleaning and is designed to chemically attract particles, unlike paper when treated with the recharge fluid. If you want take ur paper cone out hose it off real good and see what you have left, probably not much so you need to replace it. So for the price of four filters (replaced every ~15K miles) you can get a K&N that will last forever (well 1 million miles) ;)

Also, how easily the air passes through the filter makes a huge difference.

Well, the filters I sell with the CAI's are reusable, and it works just as good as my K&N. I change between them, and you can't tell the difference at all. As long as the filter is made to be cleanable, you should be able to clean it with the K&N kit with no problems.
If it doesn't work, then go ahead a buy a K&N if you want. Still a waste of $ IMO.

Well, I agree with ya...they are a lil overprised in comparison to the other filters. But theyve done a good job with their design and marketing....they sell poop loads simply based on their reputation, therefore they can keep that nice high price tag and people(like me, lol) still buy em. Its like a monoply, only with other filter companiess trying to get a slice.
But they are better! :P
