Oil Cooler (http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=search.asp&type=bysummitpart&searchtype=both&part=sum-g4974)

I was looking at this. Looks like I could fit it in the car.

My questions are:

Will this help like it says it will?

Will I have to use a different filter?

Has anybody else done this?

Will I have to use more oil?

Any comments are welcome. Just in the shopping stage right now. Summit doesn't tell too much

I saw a cheaper alternative on horsepower TV. I dont know who makes it or what its called, but it was basically a heat sink made to fit around your oil filter. They claim it will lower oil temps up to 30 degrees.

Im sure u can find it through jegs or on the horsepower TV website.

I've seen those in the JC whitney catalog...roughly $20, and it seems like it would work. ( i dunno about a whole 30 degrees, but it can't hurt, that's for sure )

yeah i dont know about the temp they claim either. the guy on Horsepower TV tried to emphasize that they were just "claims" and not proven numbers. but im sure for $20 u cant go wrong.

I use the Perma Cool - 10189, around $95, it works great and my turbo just loves it! Fuel Pressure actually went up a bit, just much more confident with it!

You will use a larger filter, probably had to add just a bit more oil, not really sure how much more, wasn't really paying attention.

as for the claim i wouldn't really doubt it, at least for my setup, after a good couple hours of running, you can fell the heat just radiating from the cooling fins!

Now the cooler your looking at is awfully big (WIDE)! not really sure what your planning on but again its probably bigger than you really need but thats up for you to decide. The reason why i say is cause if you do a turbo your most likely gonna go with a FMIC, so the front of the radiator is not a really good choice, thats also most likely where such a wide cooler would go! With mine i easily hid it under the front bumber but above the FMIC, kinda behind the front Oldsmobile emblem. Sorry its kinda confusing but you can check out my photo link below to see what i'm talking about.

good luck

oh yeah Oldsman - told you i'd get the number for it.

Honestly, Ken....an oil cooler is not really needed unless you're boosted or revving to 8000rpm (neither of which you are).....if it bothers you, just run synthetic oil and a larger oil filter (AC Delco PF52 work great and is a larger, yet direct replacement for your car).

If you're still not convinced, you can buy a kit with a smaller radiator. It involves bolting an adapter plate between the block and the oil filter, and then running hoses to and from the radiator (oil cooler). The better kits will have a thermostat and a bypass so that oil doesn't flow through the cooler until it gets hot enough (thick, molasses-like oil is bad and doesn't flow well....bad for cold weather).
