View Full Version : Chevrolet Alero?

What the hell was GM thinking when they badged an Alero with a Chevrolet logo? :badidea: It looks so gaudy! I mean looks aren't always important when it comes to cars, but this is an exception.

Sure the Alero is a good car, but when you put a big freakin' blue badge on it, it starts to look a bit ugly, and the rims are still Oldsmobile badged so it just adds to the awkwardness. Just look for yourself!

The Chevy version:

Compared to the Olds' version: :thumb:

The Olds version looks alot more subtle than the Chevy version. The Chevy version just screams DESPERATE!

Tell me what you think about it! DO IT!

:glare: Whatever...

It was strictly a foreign model, in countries that did not carry the oldsmobile brand ;)

There is no Olds franchise overseas so they were sold under the Chevy name. It's pretty common.

The air big actually had the Olds Rocket on it.

Yeah it's only overseas

But still... Why? They put the Oldsmibile rims on the thing, why not just introduce Olds to Europe? :icon_rolleyes:

What a shame... :(

GM needs to improve morale.

Because its too expensive to import that many brands into markets that don't drive all american cars because they drive their own too. But theres a dude on here from sweden that has a chevy alero, and its far better than any of ours. Cleared corners and everything from the get go, plus 2 tone leather interior and all kinds of better details.

GM needs to improve morale.

why would you try to improve morale... for a company that is dead, and never coming back?

that will be the dumbest thing i'll hear today. Don't take offense though. you are young... your allowed to be illogical for a few more years..

I thought the same thing about the Plymouth Neon... lol

I like the license plates on the overseas Chevy models though, looks like they flow with the front bumper better than these chunky pieces Ohio requires having on.

I think we had this conversation 7 years ago. There, I did it.

GM needs to improve morale.
Did you just move here from another country completely devoid of current events? GM’s morale is bankrupt right about now. Doubt “keeping Olds customers happy” makes it within the first three pages of their weekly agenda meetings. Sure it hasn't in, say, five years

and we thought Ricers switching emblems were bad, GM is was the biggest of them all.

Toyota Cavalier

1996 Toyota Cavalier coupé (Japanese export model with amber rear turn signals)As part of a wider effort to avoid additional restrictions on exports to the US, the third generation model was briefly sold in Japan by Toyota under an agreement with GM, badged as the Toyota Cavalier. Aside from the fact that it was right hand drive, the Toyota Cavalier also featured a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, wider front fenders, amber turn signals for Japanese regulations, power folding rear mirrors, side turn signal repeater lights on the front fenders, and carpeting on the inside of the trunk lid. Interior seats were often flecked with color, and the rear seat had a fold-down armrest. The Toyota Cavalier was entirely produced by GM in the USA and sold from 1995 - 2000. 1996-2000 Toyota Cavaliers came equipped with the 2.4L LD9 engine, while the 1995 used the 2.3 liter quad 4.

While all Chevrolet-badged Cavaliers received a facelift for 2000, the Toyota did not and used the same basic design for the 2000s as it did for the 1995-1999 models. The only exception to this is the colors available, the interior trim colors and the tail-lights.

A fair number of these vehicles are re-exported as Japanese used cars, most notably to New Zealand. Production of the Toyota Cavalier ceased in June 2000.

TRD made a body kit and rear wing for the Cavalier, available exclusively in Japan.
