Hey all you guys & gals out there, been a while since I've posted anything, but i've got a problem. I just bought a k&n air filter for my stock air intake, and ever since i've put it in, my fuel economy has dropped quite a bit. :( I've tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computer, but that didn't help. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How long ago did you install??
Sometimes it takes a full tank or two to adjust.
Don't kill it off the line

I’ve gone through about 5 or 6 tanks since installing it. Also I’ve been driving extra conservatively because it’s consuming so much gas. Before I installed it I had a clogged up paper filter in, and since installing the K&N I’ve been getting about 50-100kms less per tank (30-60 miles for all you Americans). Could my car just be running really rich, or is it something else????

is there any lights on? did u reconnect the sensor that goes into the intake tube?
sounds like it's a sensor thats making ur car run richer...

As for any warning lights, I get the usual three that come on once in a while. The traction, ABS, and service vehicle soon lights all come on together. I’ve heard of other people having these same lights come on, and the dealers solution – Turn the car off then on again. This was happening long before the new air filter though.

ok...know when u took out the old intake tube? the big black rubber thing that connects to the air filter? well there's a sensor in there(should be) and if it's not re-connected, it'll really run rich...it did it to me becuz i had forgotten it...fuel econ. dropped big time..

I didn't get a CAI, i merely replaced the paper filter with a square K&N

Does CAI Affect your fuel economy – city / Highway??? Would I be better off returning the square filter and buying a complete CAI? I’m not so much into more horse power anymore, cuz I’m saving money, so fuel economy is my number one priority. Are there any other mods I can do to increase my mileage??

now u got me...some one else is gonna have to answer u, cuz fuel econ vs. power is not my thing...i'm used to 9 miles to the gallon in my old car, so i don't care what i drop it down to for more power...

Snipe-
Have you had any other problems with the car other than the gas mileage issue?

A while ago one of my sparkplug wires needed replacement. The issue with the warning lights as mentioned above. Other than that nothing I can remember.

dunno? Dealership took care of the problem. It wasn't accelerating properly, and they fixed it. I don't know too much 'bout engines

Well, I was just wondering because I car just had a little episode where the trac off, abs, and service engine light all came on and would go off if I restarted the car. I had high voltage that fired a wiring harness in the engine compartment. The engine ran like crap at first (mileage wise) then it started shifting real wierd. Anyhow the whole thing cost me like $120 US to fix and haven't had any problems since.

I thought they said it was something to do with one of my plug wires, something that was making only 3 plugs fire. I'll have to check the reciept to see wht they fixed

j-work, the lights that come on are the same ones, so perhaps i will go in and get it all checked out, cuz the lights are annoying, and it would be nice to have my car running more efficiently

I just placed a posting about K&N air filters screwing up some sensors. From what the dealership told me, I believe it is only on the 3.4, but not totally sure. I think I still have the bulletin # at home. I will check and post tomorrow. As I said, I am trying to get more info on it myself.

I found the bulletin and it is #04-07-30-013. I know it does not specifically note a potential decrease in mileage, but obviously if the sensors are messing up and it is running rich (happened to me as well), there is potentially your problem. I know many people on this site have not had a problem, and it seems to be quite rare, but none the less may be something to check out. I posted the complete Bulletin here - Service Bulletin # 04-07-30-013 (http://invision.aleromod.com/index.php?showtopic=5108)
