heres some pics, im wondering if an elbow from the store would help

jayson_waltz
07-09-2009, 01:14 AM
well you could always extend the main battery wires and turn the battery to face the other direction. or if you are a huge quick-fix type of guy take the rounded side of a ball-peen hammer and give the tube a smack where it is rubbing. thats a bad idea tho.

AleroDrime

im hoping theres something i have way wrong with the elbow

Yike, it's that close to touching the hot lead?

You could just put a rubber pad on it where it contacts the hood for now, reengineer it when you get time.

Redog

It should not be sitting on top of the battery like that and if it touches the postive connection of the battery, you're fucked, plain and simple.

The piping looks like it's not in the elbow far enough and it's def cocked in that slicone elbow. Fix that.

Have an overall pic?

AleroDrime
07-09-2009, 01:26 AM
its older before the battery im afaid i cant attach it to this one because its attached to an other, im taking care to make sure the pipe never touches the possitive

This is 3-inch to the throttle body? what is the TB O.D. ? I'll see if I have a better coupler in my pile of stuff.... you may have to shorten the alum. tubing a bit.

CactusWill
07-09-2009, 01:29 AM
Yeah dude thats way too close for comfort. You're going to burn your car down. Take a full engine bay pic, and wrap something around that pipe near the terminals so it doesn't make contact while you're driving.

TB O.D.? I dont get why the coupler they sent or why the pipe would need shortening if everyone elses didnt

It just doesn't look like it's in there right, put some tape or something over your battery terminal till you figure it out....

AleroDrime
07-09-2009, 01:53 AM
alright but the pic is bad, the pipe isnt close to the top terminal and is only hitting plastic and rubber, is to the side of the battery not on top

[ion] C2

You could cut the pipe shorter where it goes into the throttle body coupler.... -_-

then it would move the whole system closer to the engine and away from the battery, if your close up pictures are of any reference to what the overall engine bay looks like.

Throttle body diameter is 2.75"

has anyone else cut up thier cosmo, and im not in at my dads i dont have a nice pipe cutter for plumping thats be useful fro this,

AleroDrime

i played with it today, sry the pics are out of order, I think general heat from the engine has loosed the elbow up so i could get some more play out of it
i put tape around the pipe by the battery and put a think over my audio terminal
also ive put a little rustoleum on to the tape where the battery was hitting, this is so i can see if its still hitting, plus a little rustoleum when only help on the spot where it rubbed the hood

Redog

Step one: remove tape, looks like ass

OK as for the set-up it really looks like the piping isn't in the elbow far enough like I said in an eariler post. Still tooo close to the postive terminal of the battery

Isn't there a bracket with this kit?

Dude, You have the elbow up side down! It should be that the longer side goes to the intake why the shorter side connects to your throttle body. It took you two pages to figure this out?????

hmm search the site I know there are guys with cold air intakes on the 3400. I got the ecotec, and the whole 2.2L specific part of this site is littered with guys asking about air intakes, so I'm pretty limited.

AbHeLlRaZoR

DIY be all redneck ricer and use PVC pipe LMAO or get some universal intercooler pipe couplers and clamps, put the filter into the fender behind the wheel well where the "hidden" factory intake box is but remove that old box first.

Since the elbow was in upside down, you were giving away HP to the car behind you, correct it and you'll gain back the 48 HP you should have gotten when you install the unit in the first place. ;)

This is freaking hilarious; This and what heineck posted.
Ken, as you see. I wasn't picking on the kid and I refreained from posting until today, when I got through laughing so hard that I could catch my breath. Look at the first picture where it looks like the elbow is stretched, this isw what caught my eye and the last picture is what made me confident in my posting that he had it upside down.

doubt it, he wanted the looks of a turbocharged car and figured the intercooler would cool the air on an N/A car just as well as a turbo car, without realizing the intercooler is there to maintain the temperatures to what N/A would be (ambient) since boosted applications heat up the air.

newbies, lots of them get that idea once in a while

Smurf the pic today shows it upside down, if so ill fix it even though its not rubbing any more

cherrington17
07-09-2009, 10:18 PM
it might not be rubbing... but its dangerously close to your positive battery terminal. if that touches, even slightly when the car launches or is idling.. your going to have a small fire on your hands...

AleroDrime
07-09-2009, 11:21 PM
well its not touching now and is pretty sturdy
