Hey I have 1 kicker solobaric 15 which is dual voice coil. If I want to mount it inverted in the box do I have to reverse the polarities?

depends.

some headunits have the option to use inverted subs. If so.. then NO, don't invert the wiring.

if your headunit does NOT have this option, I'm thinking, yes, you should invert the wiring.

But wait for an official explanation from a pro.

My radio does not.
I reversing polarities is the right thing to do , because reversing the polarities will change the pull/push of the subwoofer. So when it is inverted, instead of pushing, you need it to pull. And when it needs to pull, you need it to push.

I found this out simply by taking a normal double AA battery and touching it to the + and - wires.

I researched and found out that reversing the polatities is the right thing to do.

A bit off topic from your post, but what amplifier are you running that off of? From the looks of it, you have the speaker wired up with 16ga. on the terminals. Upgrading to 12 or 10 could most likely give you a bit extra power that is already there, but being restricted by the thin speaker wire. :cool!:

in which case... hes pushing alot of power....and NEEDS bigger wiring. small wiring + high power = heat.

heat melts wire shielding. Wires without shielding = short circuit

short circuit = boom.

Yes you need the phase shifted 180 degrees.

Some head units have this option.

Some Amps have this option also.

If the option isnt available then simply do it on the subs.

What speakers does it cross over to, and what is the crossover point?

Right now I have it set as + on sub to - on amp and - on sub to + on amp.

@Ryan, what should my phase on my amp be set at with the wire setup I just listen about ^.

Atomic if you already reversed the wires then you want your phase shift to be 0 degrees.

180 degrees is a full phase shift, which you only need if subs are inverted and wired correctly.

Some amps have the phase shift button. That provides 0 or 180- nothing inbetween.

Actually it is 14 gauge wire.

What gauge should I upgrade to?

I'm around 800 watts rms to each of my 15's right now, and i am using 10 gauge. Honestly, 10 or 12 should do you just fine. You can never go too big, the worse thing that can happen is trying to stuff large wires into terminals where they don't fit...:rolleyes2: But, by upgrading to larger cable, you may be giving your speakers more power that is already there, but just limited by the resistance. On your kicker solobaric, i'd put at least 12, but, might as well go 10 if you go 12. :coolio: The only downside is that it is a pinch more expensive...

i been told to the best way is to take your power wire, and kinda double that, and thats about what wire your want for your subs so if u got 4 guage wire id say use 10 for ur subs, 8 guage users would probably be good with 14
as u can see its not exact but it gives you an idea

Its not near the issue some people think it is...

Bigger wire wont hurt by any means. Im not telling people to use super small wire... Theres a common sense factor here.

But, given music is transient you will rarely see full RMS power and when you do its very brief. Furthermore since amps are producing AC waveforms, those forms are going from = to - quickly, not giving wire much time to warm up.

So in recap, not such a huge deal. If your wire is warm to the touch- above atmosphere temperature, then you may have a problem. Short of that, you are fine.
