ok, so my xmission has been slipping, gonna change the fluid, got a filter from the dealership, and new fluid (do i need more than 5 qts????) but no gasket, should i use a mr. gasket type product, or try and find an actual gasket, i doubt autozone carries one in stock.

If you plan on changing out ALL the fluid in your tranny your going to need about 13 quarts. And then again I don't think you can change all the fluid without a machine that sucks it all out. So you should be fine with just 5 quarts.

well i'm removing the pan to get to the filter.

my car only slips when it's warm, so i'm thinking the fluid was burned or something, so when it's hot it basically isnt lubricating... id ont know... i still dont have a concrete definition of whats wrong.

You can change the filter but I'm not sure what exactly chaning the filter does. I believe it only removes the metal shavings stuff like that that shears off during the course of a auto tranny operation. Dropping the pan is only going to let out the fluid thats in the pan and lower tranny. It's not going to get out whats in the torque converter and places like that. I can't hurt to change the filter but I don't think its going to help you that much.

well i was just told a place to start is changing the fluid, and figured might as well change the filter while i'm in there.

ok heres coming from someone whos done it, when you buy the filter it comes as a kit with the new gasket for the tranny pan so dont worry bout that but you might want some silicone to hold it in place and for extra seal. your going to need roughly about 7 quarts of fluid when yoiu just drop the pan, to get everything done including torque converter its 12(but a mechanic would need to do that because you need to pull the tranny off the motor).......it should help with slipping and things like that, its a mess so be prepared with a big pan and some rags.

Make sure that you invest or borrow a Torque Wrench.

The tranny pan bolts need to be at 108 in/lbs to tight and you'll shear the head off. too loose and you'll leak all over.

yep. 7 quarts. for tranny pan drop. Just did this two weeks ago. My tranny fliud smelled a little burnt when I installed my tranny cooler so that impelled me to change the fliud.

Haynes says to change tranny fluid at 70,000 miles.

I'd just make sure that the pan is as clean as possible when you put it back in. Brake clean evaporates 100% so its a real good solvent for cleanin the pan.

i have access to a full shop and every tool you could think of.

i have the ac delco filter kit from the dealership and there is no pan gasket, just the filter and the little ring seal

You know..
the gasket that came with my car is a plastic job with metal ringing the inside. The cork gasket that came with my filter is a piece of crap. I elected not to put it on since the plasitc gasket seemed better and in perfect condition. It was a crap shoot, but I liked the plastic much better than the cork.

yea the stock gasket is fine formula unless it looks tore up, the only problem I ran into was the seal on the filter, it was a pain to get off I think......

yea the cork gaskets are poopy,
u could buy some RTV sealant, buy the orange color i think its called copper something, anyways its the best, i had made my own gaskets for my diffs on my truck
