Gauging interest on getting a Carbon fiber hood for our cars!
RSM Racing has a guy that can do custom jobbies.
Once a mold is made, we too can have hoods!!!
Now, a verbal quote was $700 CDN which is pretty good.
If ya think you're interested, sign up. So far, there's no commitment :)

I think it's only "ricey" if you have a CF hood and your car is still a slow piece of crap because you're just fakin the funk. A CF hood is a "performance" mod, and any nutcase who buys one just for the sole purpose that it's CF and loox cool is a complete ass..................IMO

I'd paint a real carbon fiber hood in a second. If there were a HUGE weight difference, I'd buy one and paint it to match the rest of the car..... B)

Because a black hood on any other color of car is mother bunnyin ugly
Sportalero

^^Actually, I beg to differ. With CF having that black/gray-ish look to it, on a black car, it would almost seem as though the hood was ashy. And even though you'll know it's a CF hood, it'd still look off-color. In fact, a black car is the only color that i would say that you "should" paint the hood to match. But take a CF hood with a red or white car, some carbon or gunmetal shoes, and dark tint, you got yourself a nice looking car.

07-11-2004, 07:23 PM
^ I wasn't meaning to imply that a CF hood looks good unpainted on a black car, but just that if you take a hood of a black car and stick it on any other color it looks like crap. Just as CF being a different color than the rest of your car (even if its black) looks like you are piecing together a car out of the junkyard.
Sportalero
07-11-2004, 07:43 PM
^^I got what you're saying now, and i've actually seen some jackasses with black hoods on their car. Ugliest crap ever. But i guess we're just of two different minds on the CF hood. Carbon fiber makes a statement all it's own. And I'm not talking about guys who buy it to dress up their engine bays and interior. To me, putting CF hood on a barely modded car is an like asshole who has "Turbo-kazoo" exhaust tips when they're engine is NA. Like i said uptop, a CF hood is a performance mod, that's why i wouldn't even consider getting one until my car was truly race worthy. Then I would get a CF hood AND a spoiler in keeping with my car's true purpose, and if a chump thinks i'm flossin my CF just to be flossin, then i'll be more than happy to prove them wrong.
Carbon Fiber Hoods are a privilege, not a right

^Lol.. yeah, I saw a white lude here with a painted black hood. Looked sooo ghey.
I think it was Yiddishbbq though that had a CF hood that was colour matched to his ruby red car, but it was transparent so you could still see the fibres. I really liked the look of his, and would deffinately go for something like that.

07-13-2004, 08:10 PM
well, I don't know any specifics, but I can tell you there is a significant difference in weight. I can't give you specific numbers, but I can tell you this. A carbon fiber hood can be picked up with one hand, try doing that with your stock hood.

I'm a maybe as well.
kwhauck
07-14-2004, 05:06 PM
yeah i know that too but i want some specifics weight can be a huge difference or a minor one depending on the under bracing of the hood, also i already has an oem carbon fiber hood and it was nice but a scoop is way more desirable (i also guarantee my old cf hood is was lighter than these ones will be if they get produced because my old hood had no bracing at all, just the carbon fiber) now if people are looking for performance that is the way to go, personally though i think most carbon fiber hoods are for looks, i mean big deal if you save like maybe 50 lbs for $500-$600, the price you are paying is mostly for looks, bottom line.......just my 2 cents
flalero
07-14-2004, 05:21 PM
^^agree, cf, in this case is pretty much just for looks, that's what I'm going for on this.
yes and a cf hood would look fking so nice.

A yiddish barbeque sounds delicious. No bacon tho lol. Anyways, yes i have one of the few c.f. hoods that were made, and i had it painted because there were some imperfections in the resin and chips on the sides from shipping. However, if another run of these is made, i would highly recomend that there is bracing on the underside of the hood. The one i have has no bracing, and vibrates like a bitch above 55 on the freeway. Heres the link to pics of it: Yes i have a c.f. hood (http://www.n-body.net/registry/yiddishbdg/)

yup, bulldog. my old nickname from wrestling was the yiddish bulldog (if anyone remembers the british bulldog, it was taken from that). Was coined by a friend when we were about 11, and it's stuck ever since.

yiddish, i believe we discussed this as soon as i got my carbon fiber hood, i believe your shaking problem is just a matter of not haveing you pins tight enough, i've had mine up to the speed limiter numerous times and it doesn't shake at all, rides just like a stock hood, mine also had some chips and crap but they were minor so i left it for the time being, mine will eventally be painted though too....

per0xide
07-23-2004, 09:15 PM
i want one too, and i even have a job now, so ill be able to actually buy it....
its a hell of a lot better deal than the last cf hood idea i saw... they wanted like $700 for the top layer of the hood being cf, and $1400 for the whole hood...
havent found another one since until now..
ill take one with or without the hood pins, id rather not have a scoop, and id also like the braces as well... we gonna do this like everything else? pay half when it starts getting manufactured and the rest when its about to be shipped?
yeh, i'd like to know some updates on this...my hood just got screwed up last night

I know some of you that frequent the GA boards sorta know what's going on with my car but for you others I've been 'working' with a company to get a bunch of parts made for my gen GA's. As of now I have the only CF GA trunk in existence (since no one else has bought one from them yet) and as of next week CF fenders and hood with center extractor (similar to the EVO style you all mentioned). Following that I will also be recieving CF sideskirts and CF front and rear fascias.
If you guys are seriously interested in getting something CF made for your cars I can run it by the CEO's of the company and see what they say. What I'll need from you guys is a list of COMMITTED buyers, an owner in CA or nearby for test fitting and you to fwd me all this 411 via email. As for pricing you can go to www.importfan.com and check out their average price for CF parts there.
Otherwise, good luck! I know you guys have been waiting much longer than us GA guys to get companies to notice you!
Edit: BTW, you can check out progress pics of my car and the CF weave of the installed trunk on my N-Body registry:

i can get a mold and everything made for 1200 and sell the hoods for 400. so the price would depend on how many people wanted in.
i had planned on doing this with the cali cowl cf hood on ebay, but the asshole let someone walk away with it locally for like 300 bucks.

the whole problem with getting a hood made for us is that so many want something different.
Not a damn one of us can agree on a hood style.
I prefer the RKSport cali edition hood. why????????
Well if you look at your stock hood you will notice the bump in the center of the hood. what they did was take that bump and extend it to the window and turned it into a cowl induction hood. that way you have a hood scoop that went with the body lines of the car already. now from that design you could add vents and anything else. But it is a start and doesn't look like an after thought. what do i mean by after thought........well putting a scoop on our hood that does go with our body lines.
