View Full Version : Painted my rims... opinions?

So I've been thinking about what I wanna do with this car next year once the weather gets nice again... especially in terms of rims. I had a thought that bronze would look good with the blue, so I decided to do a sample... photoshop just isn't the same effect so I decided to paint my stock wheels bronze instead. Then at least I have something that sets me out a bit for the winter, as well.
For those interested I used 100 grit sand paper, followed by 220 grit, to sand down the wheels nice and smooth... and then bronze duplicolor wheel paint. I only used about 2 coats of paint on the rims, and it got cold as I was finishing so there's a bit of run on the rims but you don't notice that in the pics I have. Also I think I only let them cure for about 5-10 minutes before I drove... still no flaking though even after a car wash.
Onto pics...

I'll get close ups later. I only have my cell to take pics cuz my camera is busted so next time I think of it I'll snap a close-up.

I wouldn't say it looks stupid, but the color is not my style. Might be nice if blue and gold are local sports team colors or something, but otherwise I would probably go back to silver myself.
hmmm different but I think the colors are bad together. A little 80's if ya know what I mean but as long as your don't get any larger rims the same color

it looks alright, but for that project, I would have went with a brighter gold, not bronze.

I like it. The dark bronze goes good with the dark blue. Some nice bronze or gold 18's would be awesome on there.

Thanks for the comments.
To whoever said it, I didn't intentionally do it but the colours are close to my old high school colours. Not an intentional thing though.
I like the look... didn't have any gold wheel paint, but I like the bronze... plus there is the added benefit that I don't have to scrub off brake dust as often.
I thought about the calipers, as I had the wheels off the car. But by that point it was too late... I'll do something with them when I change my brakes in the next week or so. Not sure that anything will neccessarily tie into the colour. I am not about to paint my dash or anything... unless it goes black. I just think the bronze with dark blue is a good look. However I notice that it seems to make the wheel gap more apparent, so guess I'm gonna have to lower it sooner rather than later. Actually, now that I think of it maybe the emblems can be bronze too, to match. Rather than silver. But I dunno yet, I may not like it.
And to whoever said about buying rims... I would, but yesterday we saw some snow, so it's getting late in the year to buy rims that I won't be able to use for the next 6 months or so... thus for the time being this is it... if I still like the bronze look by spring time then I'm going bronze 18s
