Nice swap. We're a "seeing is believing" crowd, so don't be suprised if you catch some flak on this. Just take pics

once again someone comes up with this dream. save your money and buy a car that has the power instead trying to cram something into a space it wasnt made for.

check out http://www.design1systems.com that is their site.. they do fiero northstar conversions back in my home town. im sure that they would do it for your car if you have over $10,000. btw its prolly better to buy a caddi and say screw the alero, this is a costly and purposeless feat. good luck tho....lol

^^That's what i was thinkin. For the price you paid for your Alero, then buy a Northstar engine plus tranny plus PCM, having to pay out the ass just because they the name "Cadillac" stamped on them, then having someone to cram that big boy in there, an entirely new suspension to hold it's heavy ass up, rework the tranny mounts, and i'm pretty sure the aftermarket for a Northstar is probably smaller than for the 3400s, so alot of custom parts to add there. All in all, you'll probably pay more into getting this mod done than an actual Northstar Caddy costs.

there is a picture on alero.org but thats just it, a picture. the 2.4 doesnt have enough and with 75k on it dont want to throw on a turbo charger to get maybe another 10k miles if that. How bout this, I'll tell you what I am looking for and maybe you can help me out in finding it telling me no. And I do have money to dump into the car, if we didnt love our bodystyles so much we would just get another car, thats why we mod. what about putting in the v6 and remove the 4 with a turbocharger/supercharger and nos if it is needed. Has anyone here taken out the 4 and replaced it with the 6. Where is a place that I can get a nice tranny from that will be able to hold the hp and give the harder shift, yes it is a auto and that is the only thing i wont change since the wife cant drive a stick. Thanks for your help.

Honestly, you're probably better off just buying a used v6 alero and then adding that stuff on rather than swapping the engines. Used aleros are very cheap right now. For the several thousand $ it would cost you to do the engine swap, you could get a second alero!

Daytona and I were talking about this today.
Look into a Olds 307 motor. Convert to rear drive, no PCM needed.
Make it a true Olds. If done right it will be an 11 second car

Yea! When someone does this maybe we will talk! But it has yet to be done. Cost too much money. Save your money and mod the hell out of your engine and it will easily over power the Northstar!

im not looking for just a v6 im looking for a engine that has been ported polished hardened and ready to take a beating, even I were to just go out and buy a v6 I would still be replaceing the engine my question is who has good stuff. And besides switching out the pcm what else needs to be done

redog, don't waste your time and money on a 307. it isn't that good of a motor to get power out of. if you did do the motor mounts for a 307 then a Olds 350, or 403 would drop in.

To go to the V-6 you need the 1) engine (obviously, but we all knew that) 2) transmission for the V-6 (there are some minor interal differences, as well as final drive) 3) pcm for the v-6 setup and 4) the wiring harness.
If you have any further questions, please PM me, also onto the northstar I have heard of a decent after market on it from a few SCCA members that have them in fierro's so don't let anybody on here, sway you on that idea, because any true hot rodder can make this swap happen if they want to.

no one is saying that it can't be done, and in fact, most of us would love to see it done. It's just that this has been asked over and over again by lots of people, and the only successful swap we've seen is that chevy swap where they used an s10 chassis.
But unless you are a skilled mechanic, the labor involved will be very cost prohibative. You're looking at a several thousand dollar project, pushing upwards of $10,000 if you do a northstar swap.

the 307 sucked...had that in my cutlass...even got renamed by everybody as the "gutless cutlass"...before the alero, i had a 350 swap lined up, but then as everyone knows, gas prices rocketed, and me goin into college, no go..
and ya, this would be a hard project to take in, but if u get it done, props to ya...and if it is getting done, take pictures as u go

I personally don't like the 3.4 (3.1) liter engine... if you ditch the Northstar idea, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to look into a supercharged 3.8 liter... GMs 3800 is a great engine... just thinking....

that car is already stupid fast...and the alero is a bit lighter and smaller, so it'd be more agile, right?

me thinks it would be... do some braking and suspension mods, and it'd be freakin sweet!

Yeah, you sound like a true ric... I mean racer that really needs that "ported polished hardened" engine to withstand all the track abuse you're going to give it...
Since you havnt once yet mentioned suspension modifications or anything relating to handling, I'm assuming you just want to go fast in a straight line (and very likely just on the street with your buddies). So I'll tell you what you need to do: sell your alero, buy an old camaro and spend money making power with it's chevy small block, k?
And don't tell me you're interested in good cornering with your alero with a northstar V8 stuffed between the front wheels, because everybody knows how much of a canyon-carver the Caddillac DTS is...

the 3800SC Would fit, but you might have to cut into the frame and move the firewall back a few inches. I looked into that when i saw a 3800SC in a saturn SL2. Did the 1/4 mile in the low 14's.
turbo you 2.4 and slap in a 5 speed and that would be some nice power

it WILL bolt up tho. i'd suggest either a chip reprogram or a new transmission cause i know at least first gear is longer and you'll hit the rev limiter which will cause you to have to let off the gas to allow it to change gears.

olds made 260, 307, 330, 350, 403 for small blocks. 400 (2 versions), 425, 455 big blocks.
they made more motrs than that but those are from 64 to 88

i got 2 Olds 350's and an Olds 425. Along with M-21, and rear end.
Now you guys steal my idea, i'll kick both your asses................LOL
The whole S-10 frame is cheaper and easier. But I have done some checking into a tube chassis. Tube chassis is a lot more unless you can weld and make it yourself.

I agree with the idea for the 3800 S/C from a GTP those things are wild fast, and will light to light destroy alot of cars.
And I am assuming thats what you are loooking. If your heart is set on the engine swap and keeping ur current alero. Then this is what you probly wanna do. I'd really love to see it done and see the results :)
but it's ur dollar lol
