View Full Version : Volume Decrease W/ Accessory Use

i recently installed 6.5 components, and since i hooked up the new 4 channel amp, sometimes when i hit the brakes, and when i roll down the windows the volume drops and then comes back. obviously it is caused by the windows, lights, etc, drawing power, but how can i stop this? im running about 700w rms. anyone else have this prob? thanks.

you got a capacitor? if not i highly suggest it. it will take the strain off the electrical system

er, that aint right. and a capacitor is a waste of money less you get a big one(10 farad or more imo). but in that case, you might as well buy another battery/upgrade the alt cause you'll spend just as much.

so what is right then? i know when i added my capacitor it stopped the lights from dimming and it was only a 1/2 farad.

the cap wont hurt, although it does not help as much as a new alternator and/or battery would........if you know the science behind a capacitor you know it works, if you are running little power you dont need a huge one, and so on.......and if you are going to go 10 farads like he said up there in a decent brand you are better off getting a better battery and alternator.......pretty close in price.......

even if you do upgrade your batter/alternator, in your case, a cap sounds like a good idea, it would help those momentary strains like windows, etc. It wouldn't hurt to add it in your upgrade... IMO

i have a similar problem with my 4 channel amp....
i have this high pitched sound that is related to the rpm's...
but i havent really looked into it so....
but also i have this pop whenever i tap on the brake and another when i release them....
so its weird...
anyone have any suggestions????

where'd u run your wires? thats' probly ur problem...getting electrical interference or whatever its called

cruisin make sure you have a good ground and good connections everywhere, thats usually the cause of that.........as for the popping when u hit and release the brake i dunno, who hooked up your stereo and are you sure they did it right??

yea thats another, power down passenger side and audio down drivers or the other way around?? i forget........

crusinalero - i had the same engine noise when i first hooked everything up too. it turned out to be a bad ground, so i sanded my ground location better (down to bare metal) and the engine noise went away.

you have your RCA wires running parallel to a power or ground. you can ONLY run them perpendicular otherwise you'll get a lot of alternator whine
