Removing Headliner

Just a question about removing the headliner. I recently purchased a flip down LCD unit that i want to put in where the overhead compartment is. I don't know where to start in getting the headliner down!!! My overhead light comes off easily as i've taken it down to change the bulbs to blue LEDs, and i'm just gonna rip the old overhead compartment off anyways to put in the LCD, but how does the freakin liner come off? Do the coat hooks have to come off, what about the interior moulding going up to the roof, do i just pull them straight off, or are there clips that i'll break? I'm gonna put new fabric on the roof as well while its down, (to match my door panels, armrest, steering wheel, glove box, sunvisors and passengers side airbag) its just thin stretchy material but i don't want it to sag, any ideas what kind of glue i should use? Any help would be great. thanx

Don't know a lot about this but I have never heard of someone that took out their overhead storage compartment and put it back in because you literally have to rip it out of the ceiling, for the hangers, you just take them off.

I think the cubby is where people have problems with. I've actually got a cubby that came off of a car at the wreckers, but I don't know which clips people are having problems with... here's what an unbroken cubby looks like... if anyone's taken their headliner off, can you say which clips have broken? A or B?

Are you sure that the cubby pictured is "unbroken"? How would the "A" clips stay in the ceiling?

I think people break the overhead compartment thing because they try to get it off without taking the headliner out. I'm gonna be putting a flip LCD up and taking that thing right off AFTER i've taken the roofliner down, so i'll be able to get it off from the back side of the liner, i'll post a pic if anyone wants to see what a good one looks like and possibly how to get it off without taking the liner off the roof. Anyone have any ideas about the moulding that goes up the sides of the front windshield from the dash to the roof, it looks like it kinda goes in behind the front of the dash. Do i just pull it forward? are there clips or screws hidden somewhere? thanx for getting back to me so soon guys.

"A" are the ones that break. a little rubber cement or something like that and it'll stay up there fine.

These are a bitch to get off there are to clips that are a pain in the ass. I broke one of my pillars trying to get it off. I dunno of a good way all I can say is be careful

it's only clips in the side....they're stiff as hell to get out, but they go...make sure when ur pulling, that ur pulling right by the clip as to not bend the plastic piece too much...any q's, or not sure, PM me :thumbsup:

hey 200 olds alero, are those etx's your blingin? i think i have the same ones in 18's, gottem in mississauga. thanks for the info to everyone, i think i'll be attempting the removal this weekend. I'll take plenty of pics, and give detailed descriptions of how i do everything for anyone thats interested. Lotsa people are checkin this post but I still don't have any replies from anyone thats done this mod tho, and i'd like a little help from someone thats actually done it before, maybe get some tips or secrets from their past experience. cioau

^they're american racing Royales...make sure to get a good detailed how to when u do this...lots of ppl wanting to, but i think we all worried to mess something up

for reconnecting that overhead cubby, my front clips (A) are gone, it's not that it hangs but if you pull down on it they come down but spring back up

even for a quick seal , pending on how it slides in (i've never looked)

I'd say even use a bead of clear silicone, just to keep it from any unecessary sliding

all right everyone i finally got a nice sunny day and was able to get everything done. It was pretty easy to do and is one of my favorite mods. I also put a flip down LCD display up where the overhead compartment used to be. Here's a pic, what do you think? Also i posted detailed instructions in the How to section for all of you that want to try this mod yourself.

are u planning on painting/dying the dash and all that good stuff? would look really good in black and blue IMO

actually i'm just gonna use the same fabric and do the driver and passenger airbags, as well as the both sets of speakers in the doors. I got my back seat out right now and i'm recovering parts of those with the material too. Might get electric blue carpet eventually, and some i'll do some decal work on the outside of my car(with the same patterns but in chrome) to bring it all together. What do ya think

if u do recover stuff, i think u'll definately have to change the color of the dash and what not...or it'll just stick out like a sore thumb...but hey, u gotta start somewhere and do what u can....i'm sure once everything will be done, i'll look awesome :thumbsup:

It kinda makes it look tacky. You should of gone with a classy interior, and put some gucci fabric or suede or something up there.
