Anyone here have, or have heard sirius radio. Its a digital network competing with XM.
I recently installed a new head unit in my taurus, and its sirius ready....Ive really been thinkin about getting a subscription.
So to those who have it, does signal fade??? is the music uncensored...?? basically anything I would need to know.... Ive yet to hear any digital radio yet.

My friend's dad has this and he says it's 100% clear, don't know if it's uncensored though?

I have it in my Olds. I like it for the most part. The signal doesn't fade but if anything is above the antenna you lose signal. It's not as strong as XM because it has less people subscribeing to it. I think XM has over 15,000,000 people where as Sirius has just over 200,000. Sirius doesn't have as many repeater towers around the country as XM. It is totally uncensored the DJ's cuss and they don't bleep anything out of songs. There aren't any commercials. You can log in and listen to it over the internet. I like that just because the building I work in doesn't pick up radio stations. Over all I like it. I think I pay $9.99 a month because I have a year contract. You don't have to have a contract but I believe it costs about $15 without one.

ive had xm and i switched to sirius, it is nothing like regular radio.
i would get it again in a hearbeat. only probs i ever have with it is when i pull into a gas station, the roof blocks signal :)
i got it put it and never have even gone back to local.
i pay 30 bucks every 3 months for it. its 9.99 a month if you pay for more than a mnth. if not its 12.99.

I have it and it is great. And, jamcllw, the numbers you have posted are not accurate. While Sirius is not as popular as XM, it is starting to close the gap b/c many more car companies are now offering it as an option, while XM pretty much only has GM cars. And, the siginal strength thing you mentioned is not accurate either. They use different methods of satellite positioning. The method that XM uses requires repeaters on the ground. The Sirius satellites are higher in the sky and orbit as the same speed as the earth, so they stay stationary to us. The result is this.... Sirius has better siginals in wide open areas, but XM has better reception in cities. Sirius has some trouble with tall buildings in cities b/c the angles of reception is cut off from the satellites.
I love Sirius. I am paying monthly now till I find out where Opie & Anthony are going, because if they go to XM, I'll switch. Both services are pretty much the same. A lot of the stations are the same too. It is uncensored... and the raw dog comedy chanel and the mike church show are great.

damn, that sounds awesome! Yea, I think Im gonna get it. Is it a pain to wire in the antenna?
Also....say ur listening to a rap/hip-hop channel, or any music station rather....
..is it the same 20 songs everyday?? or do they do a good mix up job?

I listen to Octane which is a new rock station all day long. I hear the new top songs out about twice a day. Usually those are hours apart. I really like the fact that they play not so well known bands.

I just looked into the satellite info... XM has 2 satellites in geosynchronis orbit, parked right over the equator, the height stays a constant 35,781 - 35,791 km. Sirius has 3 satellites in eliptical orbits, which seem to offer more wide-ranged coverage globally... the orbit ranges from 24,288 - 47,082 km.
Just in case someone wants to play the B.S. card, my sources on this are:

orbitron v3.1 @ www.stoff.pl
Also interesting sources for viewing other things in the sky

The PIoneer deck I have is XM ready (needs the antenna and maybe some other stuff) unfrotunately none of these satellite companies are currently ilcensed to broadcast to canada. Apparently if you're close enough to the border XM radio might get picked up, but as a Canuckian they wont sell it to me.
Sirius seems to be the same thing... no licensing to sell to canada.
For once, I'd like to see something really good that only us canucks can get so you americans are stuck... suffering with whatever crap happens to be on the market.
That is my dream...

Got it, love it, get it! Very easy to install, you don't even need to put the antenna outside on your car. The rear deck is a great location and plenty open to the sky to get great reception
