MY parking brake sucks. If im using my brakes lightly ( just tapping them), it will work fine. But if i give my brakes some good use and they get geated up just a bit the car will do nothing but roll bakc on the tiniest of hille

Does anyone else have this problem and if so is it normal.

Any help would be apprecimicated, thanx

so you're saying that when you use your normal breaks, your parking break gives easier?

I had a similar problem a while back. Someone on here told me that the e-brakes just suck in our cars. My problem was when I parked the car, pulled the e-brake and let my foot off the brake. I had it adjusted and it hasn't been as bad as it was before until recently when the back end started making weird noises after letting my foot off the brake. The mechanic said it wasn't anything to worry about though, that all brakes have a little bit of give in them. If anyone knows better than that, tell me so I can get it checked out by a different mechanic, please. But you may just try getting it adjusted and see if that works.

How did they adjust it? They are supposed to be self-adjusting.. Mine is right at the top. When I change my brakes next week I am going to see if there is any adjustment in the Ebrake drum.

I have no idea how they adjusted it. That's just what they told me when I asked what they did to it.

Pull off Parking Brake Drum & You will see a Star Adjuster at the top. It may be frozen...Go from there...good luck!

trick to self adjusting your ebrake--reverse and slam on the brake several times....

also any car with rear disks has sucky ebrake how it works is theres a tiny tiny drum on the inside of the rotor that has a tiny brake pad in it.... it is very small-of course small things dont stop very well.

Aleros with rear discs do not use pads for the emergency brake. Aleros use brake shoes inside the drum. Pull off the drum like I said & You will see a brake adjusting star at the top, between the shoes. That is used to adjust the emerg. brakes. Also check the rubber boot that goes from the emerg. brake cable into the drum as the boot tensr to rip. Just pack with some good brake lube. & make sure the star is not frozrn & anything else at that boot.
