Anyone know if the self recharge kits will work with our cars, we discharged the ac back when i replaced the motor and havent recharged it yet,.....well yes its summer and hot as hell....so, rather than paying the dealership $100 to recharge my damn AC, can i get the self kit and do it for like $20 or whatever the kit costs?

yeah you can do that, may take a couple cans. I know there is a set with 3 cans. Make sure you put it on the LOW PRESSURE PORT!!!

how you supposed to know when its full? and is the port the one on the steel tubing that runs in front of the TB across the front?

the low side port should have a blue cap on it. refer to your haynes im unsure of the top of my head.
you should need 3 cans of 123a if you are completly empty.
gauges arent but 20 bucks. your better of getting the gauges and making sure you dont overcharge your system. you overcharge you could damage your entire a/c system. the directions are easily found online or if you buy the recharge kit they will come with it. only prob is aleros never came with r12 so if you buy the recharge kit you just spent 30 bucks on 15 dollars worth of stuff you dont need

all you need is oil if we use sanden compressers whicch i think we do but unsure.someone back me up on this...
if we have yorks, do not add oil in the freon. yorks have a built in oiling system
you will need 3 cans of freon
set of gauges
and that should be it..
good luck

most kits that you get at places like autozone or places like that come with guages already that will tell you when its full

I have used the r134a recharge kits that ecotec just mentioned. Like $15 at autozone or pepboys. Has a guage and detailed instructions included. If you are charging, get one with a guage and two without. (ones without are cheaper) You can pull the guage off the top of the can when it is empty, put it on the other bottles to do the fill, and keep it in your car to check the system pressure later.
