I have a 1999 Alero that I have only had for 9 months and already it has a ton of things wrong with it. Since I purchased the car these are just some of the problems I have had.The horn, cruise control, traction control, rear defrost and power mirrors don't work and to top it all off my gas gauge is stuck on the back side of the needle. I have checked all the fuses and not a single one of them was blown. Any advice as to how to fix these issues would be very helpful.I am strongly considering just selling the car because I have never owned a car with this many issues.

your BCM is probably toast.

its a black box on the firewall under the glovebox. it should pop out, check to see if there is corrosion or water damage. The windshield leaks right onto it... on a few cars.

I forgot to mention the other problem that I'm sure is related to the BCM.The guages have been cutting in and out and sometimes my security sytem light pops up on the dash while I'm driving.I have been told by a friend that used to work for a GM car dealer that you can't put in a used BCM in without having it programed first because they are VIN specific. So does any one know how much it cost to get one programed compaired to just buying it new.

WOW sounds like this car was drop in to a vat of BULL...
Have you had the car scaned for codes ??/

If you can find a tech with a scan tool that can read BCM codes ...as well as the ECM...
Sounds to me you might have one or 2 things wrong and is messing with other system...

Pm if you need help..

good luck..

I took my car to autozone had them hook up the scanner and it only pops up one code.I can't remember the code number but it was because my car is running to rich. I'm sure that code is right because my car only averages 19 mpg. I'm wishing I would have never bought this piece of crap. This is one of the worst cars I have ever owned and I have had alot of cars.

To solve the gas gauge needle problem ya gotta pull the cluster, pop the front off, and spin it back to where it should be... on my Buick at least.

Ok running rich is cause buy a few things,

1 O2
2 bad spark plugs & wires..

as for the gas gauge, Does it move at all, or stay on another reading when you fill it up? If so it the sending unit, it happen to me just before i went to a car show.
autozone should have give you a print out of the code and what it means..

Yes,It could be either one of those things but I'm thinking it has something to do with fuel pressure regulator because fuel pump is buzzing loud and is constantly running. I think the regulator is sending the wrong amount of fuel.As for the gas guage it dosent move when I put gas in it because its stuck on the wrong side of the needle.I am going to take out the guage cluster this weekend and turn it back by hand.

Having even more problems than before now I have an antifreeze leak.I had to add half a gallon just to make the low coolant light go out.But the car doesnt get hot I think its just the water pump. Also went to work last night and it took me at least 5 min to get my key out of the ignition. I am going to sell this piece of crap ASAP.This is worst car I have ever owned.

If you dont like my complaints then don't read what I write.I like General motors but I would rather drive a Ford than another Oldsmobile.

This form.......for the most part.....is for people that LOVE their alero's, so
complaining that your car is a POS (witch it is) and not fixing or searching the fix will only get you responses like ^^^^
I complete and utterly agree with selling the car. IMO they are garbage and not men't for anyone expecting a reliable and safe car!!! Ohhh wait...... that's what most people want...

Seriously sell it and buy a Toyota!!!!
My apologies for not offering advise on your car issues. I guess I'm just ranting cause I'm also an owner of a POS 02 alero.

Thanks to all of you that offered advice but the best thing I could do was sale the Alero. So I sold it a couple weeks ago and purchased a 1996 Blazer 2dr 4x4.I really like the Blazer its not another Alero but at least its still GM.

It's not unusual for a car with that many miles on it to have all sorts of problems.
