View Full Version : Emergency Brake On Means No Auto Headlights?

This isn't truly a problem since i don't really use my E-brake very much because i live in mid-western Indiana but....
I noticed that if i start my car with the emergency brake pulled and the auto headlights set to "auto", the lights do not turn on until i release the E-Brake. The lights turn on instantly after release the brake. And if i turn the lights to the "on" position they will turn on with the brake pulled, but switch it back to "auto" and off they go.
Keep in mind it is pitch black out. But like I said no big deal i'm just curious if this happens to be some sort of "safety?" feature that GM has installed on all Aleros

Yeah It's not a big deal.
GM did this so people wouldn't use the DRL's as headlights at night

yea its designed to be like that. even says it in the owners manual. i use it all the time, cause for some odd reason when it cold out i like to wait to turn my hids on til i'm in the car and its running. that way they dnt do their little effed up flashing when the car cranks over.

This feature also works great if you go to the drive in theaters to watch movies and you want to start your car periodically. Keep the ebrake on and the lights wont come on and blind the screen / people in front of you.

yeah, for my HIDS, it's a great add on to the Auto lights... my hids don't Flicker with the engine starter drawing power...

Does anybody know if there's a way to over ride that... like.. I want to be able to go to just parking lights or completely off once I've released the E-Brake without restarting the car.... that's a load of bs that you can't do that..

In other words you just want to turn the autolamps (ALC) totally off and use only the switch. It can be done.

Yeah...I disabled my DRL's and it's probably the best thing I've ever done for my car...granted at night, the auto lights still come on, but if I'm sitting in a driveway waiting for someone at night or something random like that I can go to just the ambers via the switch...much less annoying for everyone involved.
