tire sizes

ok my alero came with 205/65R/15 i now have 205/65/15 it worked for size now some one gave me a set of 215/70R/15 i wanna get this clear. will these tires fit om my rims? what is 205 mean and 65R 15 is obvisoily the size. im lost one this one.

The tires will fit on the rim, the sidewall will stick out a bit, your biggest issue is rubbing and making contact w/ the strut.

They gonna RUB on the strut. Prolly wont be able to even mount them. Why would you want to put MINIVAN tire size in a car???

You can mount them no problem, as the rim size is 15, it doesn't change.
As for installation on the car it might be a problem. That size comes on Silhoutte if I remember correctly.

Thats what I meant.... His question should be would it work on the car...Im sure its gonna rub, I work at a Tire Place.

The size is not just cut and clear with tires. The sidewall size is a proportion to the section width.

For example, you with your stock tire you have a 205 section width with a 65% aspect ratio. which means you have a 133.25mm sidewall (205 x 0.65)

On the other hand, with the 215 you will have a 139.75mm sidewall.

How this works overall is more significant.

for your stock size (FYI, 381mm=15")...

2(205x0.65)+381=647.5mm overall height (25.49")

now for the larger size

2(215x0.65)+381=660.5mm overall height (26.00")

So the 215s will be about 1/2" taller.
