So i've always liked the look of the smoked out headlights. The appearance you get when you add the dark lens cover to the headlight. I've got a couple questions. I upgraded my headlights to sylvania silverstars, and im wondering if the lens cover would basically ruin the whole point of getting ultra white lights. Like if you wont be able to tell they're white, with the covers on. I'm also considering going to HID, but again, im not sure if the covers would destroy the whole HID look. Also, if anyone has any links as to where i can get a set of lens covers that would be appreciated too. Thanks.

the covers will definitely dim the lights. Your best option is to have vinyl placed over your lights in a nice pattern of you choice, so it will still allow light out. (IE- a projector style vinyl pattern)

I wouldn't recommend getting the headlight covers if you're using something like Silverstars, unless you disable the DRL's. I started out using Silverstars before I got my covers. I changed back over to the stock bulbs when the covers were starting to warp from the DRL's. But an easy fix is to just disable the DRL's. And this (http://www.sfxperformance.com/search/auto_subcategory.asp?manufacturer=Oldsmobile&search=Alero&MenuSubCategory=Headlight+Covers&MainCategory=Headlights&type_id=1) is the cheapest place I found them.

NOOO!!

Don't do it, that would be sooo ghey. Plus block alot of light too. The way the housings are designed, light is reflecting out off of all the chrome surfaces inside, and covering is gonna fock em up

i think the only way to change the look of the headlights without screwin up the light comin out is by painting the bezels

Well, they're headlight covers. You can take them on and put them back on whenever you want.

I have AVS headlight covers on my other car with HID, and yes, it will definitely kill the brightness. Actually, I put the HID's in on purpose, 'cause at least a little light comes through now, whereas with normal halogen's, dickall gets through 'em. Unless you have really good fog's, I would not recommend it at all, especially if you drive on alot of non- or low lit roads. They do make a car look awesome though!

well, when i say vinyl them i mean vinyl the outside over te bezels...it would be easier to just vinyl them. Painting the bezels requires some skill, patience, and work...and the topic starter didn't seem to sound like a mechanic.

Not that you have to be a mechanic to paint your bezels, but you get what I'm saying

actually, i am a certified mechanic. Only not for cars. Tractors actually. I've been working on them since i was 12 at my grandparents business to help out, and got certified about 2 years ago. But that little adventure has come to and end for dental school. Anyway, thanks for the input guys, looks like im just gonna kill the idea of the covers.
