I was thinking of pairing a set of MTX terminators subs with a 2000 watt power Acquistik Amp. The MTX subs handle up to 1200 watts of peak power. Does anybody think this may bust my subs because of how big the amp is or is this a good ideal?

You need to always run the rms power to the subs. Always go by RMS!!!
Severely over or underpowering your equipment is never a good idea.
For example, lets say you have 2 12's and each handles 250wrms. Your best bet is to find an amp that puts out that power RMS. A 250 x 2 or a 500 x 1 will be perfect.

Using that amp will be fine as long as you set the gain to match the subs. Having an amp that can put out more then your subs can handle is fine as long as you can control yourself into not turning up the bass or gain higher then your subs can handle. And for another correction "under powering" a sub will not hurt the sub in anyway as long as you are not clipping.

GREAT post Afugly. It's about time we get that chart in here somehow. :) Honestly, if i were you RideRedAlero, i'd save my money for a good first system. If i could do things over again knowing what i know now, i would have started fresh, and looked into some more-quality equipment, even on my budget. Not trying to force anything on you, but in the same relative price range, i'd look into some better known options...
Kicker CVR: I've heard a few of these personally, for the money they sound preety darn good. Plus, they still work well in sealed boxes if you are paranoid about space. http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-COMP-VR12-CAR-SUBWOOFER-SUB-WOOFER-COMPVR-CVR-12_W0QQitemZ360226231827QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Sub woofers_Enclosures?hash=item53df281613
Hifonics zx10d4: Had a single 10" of these in my car sealed, sounded GREAT off of 400wrms. I'm putting a pair of these in a friends car next weekend. :)

Orion Cobalt: Exocontralto on Youtube and SMD made these rather popular, sound pretty good in small ported boxes. http://cgi.ebay.com/ORION-HP10D2-CAR-AUDIO-10-HP-SUBWOOFER-SUB-STEREO-NEW_W0QQitemZ130357908003QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Su bwoofers_Enclosures?hash=item1e59efd223
And for amplifiers...
Hifonics BXi1210d: I've had great luck with the three BXixx10d series mono-amps i've ran and installed, in my opinion these are the BEST watt/dollar amps out today! Here is 1200watts @1-ohm. 900 @2-ohms. http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-HIFONICS-BRUTUS-BXi1210D-1200W-Car-Amplifier-Amp_W0QQitemZ390149229271QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Am plifiers?hash=item5ad6b4cad7
CrunchGPV2000.1: I have even installed one of these recently in my friends neon on his two 12" kicker l5's. Pushed them great @1-ohm. You'd be getting about 800 to 900 watts rms with the right electrical. http://cgi.ebay.com/CRUNCH-NEW-GPV2000-1-AMP-MONO-2000-WATT-SUB-AMPLIFIER_W0QQitemZ110479071775QQcmdZViewItemQQptZ Car_Amplifiers?hash=item19b910da1f
These are just a few ideas off of the top of my head. Just try to do it right the first time man, and you won't regret it one bit. Look at spend at least $75 on a good sub, and at least $150 on a good amp. Match up the rms values as best you can. Also, make sure you understand how ohm-loads work. There's no such thing as too much research before you purchase. Watch youtube videos, read reviews. And while you're at it, join some sites such as stevemeadedesigns.com, caraudio.com, realmofexcursion.com, and soundsolutionsaudio.com to name a few. Good luck! :)

Power Acoustik is butt wipe.
Dont waste hard earned cash on crap equipment. At some point you will regret it, especially when you realize you paid $xxxx amount for something you cant even sell as its a turd.
