As cars get older, the engine gets louder (as opposed to when they are new and quiet) Which is the "duh" statement to get everything started.

I heard from a guy at work, that adding 4qts of whatever standard oil you want, and 1qt of Lucas oil, quiets it down again, since the lucas stuff is really thick and tacky. It also better for your engine.

My thought about this is... how is it different to run that way, from say... 5qt of 10w30?

...to which... I was considering running that in the summer, then 5w30 in the winter. (10w30 would barely turn over in the cold winter mornings here)

yes? no?

I put lucas in all my previous cars. (3 -3800's all over 150000km) I added it as my 3rd litre to get it to mix as much as possible.

I always liked the product, it has a very different viscosity than any oil. It is super thick and very sticky, it clings to metal, and doesn't drip the same way oil does. It also stopped the small oil consumption in those motors.

I would never use it in cold temps, it thickens so much it should be considered a solid!! at -5 it won't even flow, similar to molasses.

I didn't find it was any quieter tho, they all had lifter noise. I planned on putting it in my ho, but only use half a litre.

oh yeah.. i'd definitely only do this in the summer. (i change my oil twice a year)

and its not to cure lifter tick or anything... its just been noticible lately that the engine running noise, is considerably louder then it was when i got it 5.5years ago.

What kind of oil are you using?

Notice any oil loss at change over?

I run WIX filters when I can find/afford them. Light years better than Fram or the likes...

I run Valvoline.

i run full synthetic (whatevers on sale at the time) and commonly use mobile 1 filters.. but have used fram.

never used anything but 5w30

and by "noisy" i don't mean theres any kind of a problem. Just the engine is louder.
