Topeka Meet and Drag, July 24th!!!

July 24th which is Saturday, is the Topeka car meet and drag. At 10am we're meeting at L&H mobile electronics (1818 S. Kansas Avenue) there we can show off our cars and have a grill and cookout. After talking to some people about the cookout they all recommended I charge a small price to help keep away freeloaders. So I decided I will charge a small price but, out of state people eat free as a thank you for coming. At 12 pm gates at heartland park topeka open up for et drags I plan at leaving around 1 to go there so whoever wants to follow me can. Also et drag prices will depend on what class you race and spectators are $10. ( I will find this info soon) After et drags I don't know if you guys are up to something then let me know and I'll see what else we can do(go-carts, putt-putt, bowling, cruise, photo op, etc.) For all you out of staters I'm going to compile a list of the closest hotels soon, this is finals week for me so, bear with me. I won't be ready to go until about April or so at the earliest. My heads/cam/LIM/ARP studs from WOT-Tech is shipped and on it's way which will be a little down-time for the engine, and the 4t65 swap mounts/axles from Milzy are still under production. So.......

Well I'm happy for you man, but I can't afford to do two 9-10 hour trips. Especially if it ends up being around the same time as A.S.S. I could only afford to do one. If it was like 4 or 5 hours I would say yea because I could drive out there and drive back the same day with no problems, but trying to do almost 10 hrs there and then trying to drive 10 hrs back in the same day. If you can do it congrats, but I'm not risking losing my car because I fell asleep at the wheel. I did a 16 hr. trip one time and that was my max for one day of non-stop driving. So I would like to be there, but we will see what happens is all I can say and don't count on it is all. So basically unless I can afford to drive there and back and get a hotel/motel room for the night it most likely won't happen because it's just to much driving for a single day and it's not necessarily because I couldn't do it non-stop. It's just because I wouldn't really want to risk it because if anything were to happen on the way back I don't have a back up car at the moment. So I would be screwed and right now I don't need that.

I usually drive straight through to Kentucky in May (sleep an hour or two in the car), I'll have to check which week it is, but it would be nice to stop over and race other Aleromod people. Topeka is almost halfway on the trip.....

Make SURE you retune when you get down this way. That's how I popped a piston last time.....tuned to the ragged edge, and then raced at nearly 1000 feet lower altitude and bam.....LEAN-OUT lol

One day is plenty of time. Just start out with a VE tune, then start tweaking the MAF tune. Oh, wait.....you have HP tuner or DHP PowrTuner? From what I understand, HP probably takes longer, due to the availability of certain assistance plug-in's you can use with the DHP.

What you and I need is to have a separate early meeting in the Spring, before it gets too hot, get the racing out of our systems, then if we can, attend the more "fun" type gathering later in the Summer. :)

This is kcir schedule a little more friendly more racing on weekends, I'm going to call heartland park soon to see if they have any exhibition races during events where we can run down the strip. Do people prefer Friday,Saturday, or Sunday? I'm guessing we need to have this on a weekend for maximum turnout.

Well I'm going to have it July24th. I started talking to some places today where we can meet up and grill and look at our cars. I'm going to try to reserve a place close to the track. The shelter houses I've been looking at our about $75. While I won't require people to pay or make donations (specailly people coming far away), if you do or bring food to cook it will greatly be apprecaited to help offset my cost and possibly make this an annual thing.

That stretch from Lawrence to Kansas City is about the halfway point in the trip, and I like to get more than halfway before any serious sleeping :p

There are no track days listed at Topeka in that time frame, though. Which is OK, because if I make it to KY, I'll probably leave it all on the track in Bowling Green :lol:

UPDATE! I'll talked to some good friends today at L&H mobile Electronics. I asked if I could have a meet there and only 1 of the 2 store owners was there, but he said I probably could have it there in there parking lot. I need to go back next week to talk to the other store owner to make sure it's fine. So if this goes through they'll allow around 30 cars because people will drive by and want to see. We'll still be able to have grill and food, I was thinking being there 10-2ish before we leave for drag strip. Also what's great about L&H is it is only a few miles away from track so I'll give more definet information next week when I talk to the other owner but this is what I'm hoping for now.

Well if your replacing your injector, might as well replace all the vacuum and fuel lines while the pleneum is off. Also sometimes you can get to the injector without taking the pleneum off.

oh i replaced allll those lines on the motor drop haha. and i don't have to replace the injector, it's just turned and situated in a way that i can't get the connector on it because the fuel line's in the way. so i have to pull the plenum, loosen the cap, and just twist it a bit. it's injector number 4... right where that fuel line runs down it's JUST in the way. SUCKS! but luckily i did the TB coolant bypass, so a plenum pull shouldn't be TOO bad.

Also, Milzy still hasn't sent me my rear transmission mount yet. Something about the "kit" being designed off the standard 4t65e from a Bonneville and has a different rear bolt pattern than the HD model. No idea. Never compared them. So, I'm likely not going to be able to throw down any serious torque unless I get that resolved. Hopefully he has some good news soon because I cannot check my overall geometry, downpipe and wiring clearances without it installed. I'm leaving shortly for field training for a month, then returning for less than a month, then deploying to Iraq again (no surprise). But I'm not going to have time to make any runs or do anygood on tuning due to all the preparation for this deployment. If that occurs, I'm going to be PISSED. This shit has been on order since FEBRUARY 1st (what is that, nearly 5 months??) with the statement that it would take a couple of weeks.

Ben on the other hand has finished everything he had control over and I already have everything installed. Just have to finish bolting up the accessories.

What is different from the last time you raced it, can't you put it back the way it was, and get it good for some high 12's? I don't have a block of time off scheduled till the last week of September. But as of right now, I would estimate my car is running 13.1-13.3, it would take some cooler temps to get into the 12's.

Oh, I missed that chapter, or forgot about it. My front mount was worn out too (but not snapped), just changed that when the tranny went in.

Reminds me of having to chain the block to the frame, when I had my last '65 442. It was always breaking a mount.

Attention everyone who is planning on attending or who is considering it. It is possible that it may storm Saturday, in the event of that happening we will not be able to have this event. It will be rescheduled though, I will have an update by Friday at 6pm so please check back on this or any site you originally saw this on. Saturday the 11th is looking pretty good weather-wise, they have an E.T bracket event going. You can also run time-only, but you're limited to whatever many runs you can get in before the eliminations start. I am giving that some consideration.

Well the racing would take up most of the day on Sunday. If the car didn't break, and I wasn't drained after all that, then maybe....remember, I'm an old guy here.....like Yoda from Star Wars..:lol:

not likely this weekend. I'd be too tempted to race on a half-assed tune. I'd still probably show well, but I'd probably break some shit at this point and be right back to square one.
