I had new brakes put on my car last week, on Thursday or Friday and I'm already having problems. Yesterday, they started making really weird noises, like grinding or something. It wasn't metal on metal, just some kind of loud grinding noise. They were grabbing pretty bad too. So, I took it back to the dealership this morning for a brake inspection. After 49 minutes, and $58.93, they told me that the front rotors has a lip on them that will need to be replaced with I have the brakes replaced again. Now correct me if I'm wrong, because I don't know dick on this kinda stuff, but shouldn't they have caught this when they put the new brakes on? I was told that to fix this I would need new rotors and it's gonna run me about $480... Any suggestions as to what I should do?

Did they turn the rotors or just put pads on it? They should of turned them to true them up especially if the old pads were grinding aginst the rotors.

Get all new aftermarket front brake setup. For new pads and rotors, if you can know someone who can do it for you (about an hour or so), it will cost you about $150.

And yes, they should have noticed that lip when they installed the brakes.

For $400 you could get EBC brakes, slotted and dimpled from Tirerack. Those are 10x the brakes what the dealership will put on and rape you on charges for

Yeah they should have noticed when it was done
If they didn't they should only charge you for the rotors

I don't know what they did last week. All I know is that I paid out the ass for the brakes, after they quoted me a different price. Now I'm lookin at having to pay out the ass again. Something just isn't right here... :pissed:

Yes put up hell on it marie, that is bullpoop. I had a similiar problem when I got my new brakes on. My old pads had worn right down to metal on metal, and created a "lip" on my rotors. These ruined my new pads. I was upset and kindly but firmly talked to the shop manager and they decided to put new pads on for free. I had already gotten new slotted rotors to put on so they discounted the install for that for me as well. This was a firestone service shop.
If they give you crap, print out this forum topic and show it to them or something....I don't know...but I do know they should pay for at least some of it.

main problem with dealership work is it`s a union shop and they are goin to rape ya and bend ya over any chance they get
my suggestion is just pull it out from the shop and go to a mechanic that won`t bend ya over

good thinkin, labor rates around here went up again to 85 an hour!!!!
and if your problem is covered by warranty work union mechanics will try to find anything wrong with the car just to make more money
ya best bet take it to a trust worthy mechanic and let him fix it much more cheaper

well as luck would have it, i ran into an old b/f from high school at the club tonight and he just so happens to be a mechanic working at a shop in lexington. they do nothing but brake and suspension work. we started talking about my problem with my brakes and he told me to bring it by one day this week and he'd take a look at it. he said that it sounds like a simple fix and could probably do it for well under 150 bucks and and a date  i'm not going to get new brakes since these are brand new... might as well keep em since i already paid for them.
