i've heard it time and time again.
I know when my "oil change" light comes on... its time to start considering, finding time and a sale. Its not a OMFG CHANGE OIL NAO! light

Yeah, i got a little worried because I remember one thread where sooo many people said "I change my oil every 3000 miles," which unfortunately, I did too. Now I feel like an ass for doing frequent oil changes, and hopefully some of the newer people on aleromod will see this thread or others like it, and they wont be suckers like meeee.

i changed the oil in the alero every 4-5,000 miles and the oil in my integra right now has ~7,000 on it. i haven't changed oil in my integra since december, but it's overdue for one now, i planned on doing it every 3,000 miles but gave up on that since i have been putting ~100 miles a day on my car driving to and from school.

I've always done it every 4,500 - 5,500 miles. Also, who goes by the absolutely useless oil change light? I suppose it's good for the fact that it counts idle time, but does anyone remember to reset it every time they do their oil? Maybe I'm just too absent minded

I do. Of course tho, that's for every time it randomly came on since I used to change my oil at 3000 miles lmao...

i change my oil with mobil 1 full synthetic around 5000km (or about 3100 miles)
i know. might be excessive. but if it keeps my motor happy, i'm ok with that

Lol, that's honorable, but I'm sure ur engine will be happy with non-synthetic oil being changed in 7500 mile intervals. I guess, maybe if anything, u could use a high-mileage oil after 100k miles. I don't wanna see u waste ur money. Or for that matter, throw anymore at companies in any type of business dealing with oil...

So when I had my heads off I put gas threw the block to clean out all the crap, needless to say the gas came out black when I pulled the plug out. So I should be good on a oil change for the next 10k miles right :rolleyes2:.
Oil really doesn't brake down, it just gets full of crap, Sooooo how about you just keep an eye on your oil (you should be checking the level every week anyway;) ) and when it looks, smells, feels and or tastes like it needs changed change it.

Idk mein freund. I figure that we should just follow the manufacturers recommendations. I mean, they are the guys who built the engine.

Yes they are also the guys that partner w/th eoil companies and it's a u scratch my back il scratch urs.
also same reason i do not get automotive magazines all their largest sponsors are car companies not like they are ever going to bad mouth them that much don't bite the hand that feeds!

I think oil change time varies with several factors, like climate, dirty/dusty (desert), how hard you drive, age of the engine, etc.
Mine being boosted, I can't afford to have oil-related failure from high temperature breakdown.

:haha:
Engineer's creed : "If I build it right the first time I won't have a job tomorrow and when I do build it right I'll make sure I can make my money off it with lies."
Chemical engineers from the oil companies say every 3000 miles, other engineers just go along with it because they are engineers too.
But like I say, you should be checking your oil every week any way. Your car is a living thing, if you started peeing red and pooping white I bet you'd want to change that.

i dont check my oil every week. i probably should, but with only 50xxxkm on it, it really should be good. i know it doesn't leak.
and i might be able to go 7500 miles between changes. but my car sees alot of abuse. i like to hit red line sometimes when getting up to speed. i also enjoyed spinning the tires and such (not trying to sound like street racing or anything)
but if it's yellow when it goes in, and it looks black at 5000km. i think it's good to change it. before, the oil went in yellow, and i had 7000km on it, and the oil still came out oil (when brand new lol)
it's just a little thing. if i keep doing little things like plugs and oil changes and such, i can only hope for another 100xxx-150xxxkm out of the motor.
and really. oil isn't expensive. if you get regular oil, a oil change is like $30.
and you get to check over other things

Dude, don't get too far into it. More than likely, The manufacturer wants u to think they built a good car (and motor) so that u come bak and buy another one from them. Not everybody is a piece of shit who cuts corners and effs others over. There are a lot of people who put honest hard work into these cars. I'm sure if you walked into the GM powertrain building at the tech center (about 10 miles from me. I've been there. Yes, both of my parents work at GM) they'd teach u a thing or two about motors. And I'm sure that if I asked, they'd teach me a thing or two also. Point is, 7500 miles seems very reasonable for a motor oil change interval considering that all you have to do is use normal oil. Not synthetic, not a synthetic and normal blend, just plain old motor oil. All it has to have is that little symbol that shows it's been certified by the API. And BlackJack is right by also bringing up other factors that might effect the oil life too (which is brought up in the service manual). Also, a lot has to do with how the engine is designed. The new '11 mustang V8 is supposed to have 10,000 mile changes as recommended by ford, more than likely using the same non-synthetic type of oils. I think u should give the manufacturers a little more credit than u do.
Oh, and don't use those little laughing face things to try and make fun. They're annoying, and this is supposed to be friendly, not a game of trying to one-up each other.

Actually, the Motorcraft 5W-20 oil is a synthetic blend.
In the Alero I just use Mobil1 and change it by the light, which works out to around twice a year... Maybe.
