My am fm cassete /cd player started acting crazy today in my 2000 Alero, it sent a message saying cassete needs cleaned, well I never use it and so the owners manual says to hold eject for 5 seconds to tell the radio it has been cleaned, well I do that and it still acts up.
the whole time it is giving the cln code it also makes weird noises and turns off and on and if I turn the whole thing off it just turns it's self back on and makes crazy noises again and starts the whole thing over and over.

Anyone have that problem before, is there anything I can do to fix it ?

there are a few guys on here with detailed dealer info... i forget who they are.

i know cliff is one... but i don't think he does much in terms of radio work.

What part of Ohio are you from? I think I still have my old radio from the car just sitting around not doing anything. If you come the show in Cuyahoga Falls you can have it. As long is its the radio with the mosfet amp in the trunk it should work. Check in the trunk on the drivers side behind the carpet and tell me if you have the amp.

Thanks I'll check on the amp, didn't know it was back there.

I live near cincinnati in the lower south west corner of the state, you're pretty far up there but maybe we can work out something.

your town looks like a very nice place to live.

I don't see any amp behind the carpet in the trunk.
will your radio swap with mine even without a amp ?

How does the radio come out of the dash ?

I have a 2000 gls and mine acted crazy too... I would use the tape to run to a iphone and it would eject and take the tape whenever it felt like it. That's what prompted me to replace it with a new stereo. I bypassed the factory amp when I replaced the speakers as well and had much better sound all around.

^^ Mine did that too, but it didn't happen enough for me to bother.

Now I have a GM GPS in my car, no cassette deck :ninja:

thank you for the instructions, man the factory doesn't make it easy do they.

I would be happy to just find a stock radio for cheap to get by for now.

does it HAVE to be the type without a amp in the trunk ? or will any alero radio /cd player work .

Cliff is best to ask about that...I think that it has to be the type that came out but if there is anything special to get dissimilar ones to work Cliff should know about that.
