$15 - D2S pigtails
$50 - Philip OEM 85122+ bulbs
$40 - 2 aftermarket ballasts
$150 - 2 Alero headlight assemblies

-----

Sorry all, I've been away but I'm now back.

Please note that these headlights are UNFINISHED, if you're looking for a perfect setup. They however work 100% functionally, other than the right bi-xenon solenoid, which is now unplugged. The cutoff line is tack sharp and looks great. I would say it's a bit slanted up by 1 degree, but the output/brightness makes you not think about it.

As per above, I will be selling this AS-IS. Again, these headlights will require work if you want a polished product. I also had to dremel off the plastic piece behind the headlights for more clearance.

-----

I started a retro on my 01 Alero, just for fun. I have a few progress pics so far..

I'd use DDMTuning 9006 HIDs with it.

These are Philips OEM D2S 85122+ bulbs. Sorry, I'm not a fan at all of the plug-play HID kits. If you go HIDs, it has to be either D2S/D4S projectors or nothing...

Current setup is G35 projectors with TSX-r clear lenses. Further modifications include shield reshaping, bulb spacing, etc. More to come..

have you thought about putting white or blue colored LED's inside the bezel kinda like the audi, or put LED rings around the projectors? I think having a small ring of like soft white colored LED's would be a nice little touch.

Thanks for the feedback all. As noted above, I don't think I will be doing this twice. It simply takes too much time and wouldn't be worth the money. :p

G35's are bi-xenon and have gotten this to work, such that low-beams use projectors only and high-beams will turn on halogen highs AND the projectors by pulling the shield down for the HIDs.

You don't even know how much people will pay... how can you say it's not worth the money? I bet you'd do it for $2,000 but not for $5.... "worth the money" is dependent on the money.

Thats an awesome idea with the bi-xenon's and having both on with highbeams. Whereabouts in Ontario are you?

It's similar to how the TSX works - high beam leaves HIDs on and turns on halogens; however in this case, the bi-xenons pull the shield down for more light.

I'm in Scarborough.

I'm going to bring this thread back up because I'm actually getting rather interested in doing projector headlights now that I have HID lights. As much as I love them, I am a little worried about glare for oncoming drivers and getting pulled over.

I've actually completed the retrofit a month ago, but haven't had a chance to post pics. I will get you guys some photos this week.

Also, the headlight pair might be on sale, as I might be trading in the Alero soon.

there is a DIY on how to do it here in the forum somewhere to retrofit them from the fog lights, personnaly I used both and doing the retrofit doesn't do much lol I still got flashed all the time when I had them in the aurora

cavaliers60
08-19-2010, 06:03 PM
I have only been flashed by one person and he was on a moped. I just thought it would be cool to have the projectors... And since I brought this back up, I should have first dibs if he sells the headlights. I'd even be willing to trade for mine plus a little extra for the work. That way you don't have to buy a whole other set to put on the car. :) I would like to see how they look as far as beam projection and whatnot.

I'd have to disagree with that. If retrofitted properly, there is a HUGE difference between projectors and reflectors.

If your headlights are aimed properly, there's no reason for anyone to be blinded by them. Your light cutoff should be below the other vehicle's windshield line...

Price on projector headlights?

robalero
08-19-2010, 06:52 PM
even if retrofitted properly I doubt if you took someone who never knew they were retrofitted took them for a drive, came back and swapped out the lights ( without them knowing ) and took them for a drive again they will even notice a difference. its called mind believeing their is a difference, I find their more for looks then actually being useful at least when compared to when I had them in the aurora, people who had non projectors lights were much brighter then mine same hid kits and bulb temp.

figure that one out

I have to warn the potential buyer that there are a few issues with the headlights, and might require some work if you want a 'perfect' retrofit..

- ballasts are mounted outside the headlight assembly, via bottom port sealed by silicone
- left headlight is mounted slightly more forward than the right, causing the need for double slope cutoff (which I actually think looks better)
- slight paint smudge on left headlight from previous accident
- bi-xenon shutter will only work on models with DRL on high-beams
- bi-xenon shutter will only work when stalk is pulled half-way

All these things aside, the cutoff is perfect. I will post pics soon.

Not to bad. What if I have my own HIDs already? My ballasts are out of the way, so it should fit just fine, right? My car has high beam DRL's too. I'm a little confused on the stalk thing and the double slope cutoff... But if the price is right, I'm totally interested in getting these.

No pics yet, but will be up soon.

Just want to mention that the headlights are a little unfinished.. I wanted to paint them black to fill in all the worked on areas, but never got a chance to. Because of all these issues, I will be selling these for a very reasonable price.

With all this aside, the cutoff and output is perfect.

Officially putting these up for sale. I just got back from CA and drove the Alero tonight; the right headlight is now out of focus and might need some adjustment.

All equipment is still fully functional, but needs work, so I will be selling these at cost price of parts.

$125 - G35 projectors
$50 - TSX lenses
$15 - D2S pigtails
$50 - Philip OEM 85122+ bulbs
$40 - 2 aftermarket ballasts
$150 - 2 Alero headlight assemblies
$20 - 2 shrouds

$450 CAD will be the price (plus shipping ontop).

The projectors are JB-welded to the headlight reflector and are mounted well. Looks like the G35 cutoff shield may have tilted causing the right headlight to go out of focus.

Sorry man paying that much for cosmetics isn't justifiable for me and I'm sure many others. Most I would give is 225 cad shipped and thats if they will work I don't want them going out on me. Good luck with the sale but you wont get full price for the parts.

[ion] C2
12-24-2010, 08:28 PM
Subtract the headlight cost and don't include your own bulbs/ballasts and the price will be far more in the proper range. I paid $50 for both of my headlights... no one in their right mind would pay $150 for factory housings.

I've decided to rip these apart and sell off the parts separately. Thanks for the interest.
