Hey Guys,
New to the forum, my son bought some rims and tires off of a local classified site and after installing them they looked way to small for the wheel openings. They are Eco rims 17x7 with a 42 stamped inside which I assume is the offset with 205/40/17 tires on them. He would like to keep the rims and put on 225/50/17s which he found today for $50 a piece. Big question will they fit without rubbing front or rear?

Yeah they fit had 225 30 20 with a drop and no rubbing so on 5mm should be ok

17x7 with a +42 offset will fit fine. The tires however, I will give you my opinion on them

A stock tire (225/50/16) has an overall diameter of 24.85in.

The 225/50/17s have an overal diameter of 25.85in. This is pretty close to maximum tire. You really can't fit anything with much over a 26in diameter on the alero. This also means that your son's speed will be 4.026% too slow so that when your speedometer says 60mph you will actually be going almost 63mph.

Even though the tires may be a good deal. The correct tire to go with is a 225/45/17. It has an overall diameter of 24.97in and will barely affect the speedometer as it is very close to the stock size.

Another option which will barely affect the speedometer would be 235/45/17s which have an overall diameter of 25.32in.

Sry with the 20s it was 25.3 and 17s with the tires is 25.9
