hey so i stop at a gas station put the car in park and cut it off. when i take my foot off the brake she lurches forward and like catches on the gear of somthing kinda like a manual rolling backwards when you taking off on a hill.

then i start her after getting gas and theres a knocking sound, i rev it alittle and it goes away, but the noise returns as she goes to idle, on the highway she ran fine except for some more odd idleing a red light.

the knocking sounded like metal on metal, but more a scuffing then a clashing

my autos always rolled a little on a hill before they stopped moving, it just catches. i believe that's fairly normal. (i can't compare to mine since i'm a standard, sorry)

as for the knocking. what year of alero is it. because the 2002 ecotecs had oil pump problems with oiling the timing chain. so maybe things aren't getting oiled properly. (i believe thats how i blew my motor)

and check your oil, be sure it's full. and my alero kinda ticks while idling, it's not really loud, but it's there. maybe a video would help

sorry i can't be more helpful alerodrime. and i'm not a expert, so hopefully someone who knows more will help you out. i'm still trying to learn about these motors

it does it on hill but this was a much bigger lurch and was on a level surface, thats what surprised me

Is this a one-time occurrence or continuous?

do you have the appropriate amount of oil in it?

See if it happens again, could be just a fluke.

i know the 3400 is 4.5q oil, the 2.2 is 5q? you should really only fill it to the required level anything more is bad.

meh who knows what it really is, if and when my L61 starts knocking I'll pull the engine out and build it from the ground up cause it seems like a great excuse to build the engine :)

i always put 5qt in my 3400. why not? its just going to lubricate more. its not like your putting 6-8qts in. another half isn't going to kill it.

Since I cant find a s/c set up at the moment I'm going to buy a ecotec block to tear down and build over a longer period of time, then say screw the S/C go with a snail and boost the snot out of it and see how well a sleeved and forged ecotec holds up to what I throw at it, chances are my transmission will not want to be part of the fun.
