Hi guys,
I am new to the Alero Forums. I have had my alero for almost a year and love it. I was crusing at 60mph when a deer runs out and hits my front fender bounces on the windshields and flys off. I am thankfull to have survived the crash as the deer should have been through my windshield. But now I got major roof damage. I only have liabilty so I am on my own to fix her. I am hoping the roof can be pulled back and possibly have a new roof skin welded on. What do you guys think? I most likely will be repainting the car since I have to get the roof and fender fixed.

tell me the deer died and if it didn't you got out of the car and killed it with your bare hands.. that really sucks dude

Killed the buck on contact, he was a 4 pointer and one set of his horns was on the floor of my car. I was covered in glass and deer hair as well as my car. My fiance's dad does bodywork and he said he will fix it for me. I am worried the roof damage may be too bad to fix.

Yeah Im not a dude but its all good lol
If it was up to me I would give the roof a slight chopped top.
I didnt pay much for the car but am hoping it can be fixed. I had a 2001 Mustang GT before this car and liked the Alero much better for the gas mileage and the V6 pulls along pretty well in the car.

Glad to hear you are alright and glad you only got coated with hair. Deer tend to act like armor piercing rounds when they hit windshields.....penetrate and explode.

it can be fixed, but it needs to be pulled back structually once the roof is cut off hes gonna have to fix the support beams up front, and possibly both a-pillars, but all that will come back once pulled on a frame rack

Welcome!
Real glad you're OK, that was quite a hit!
I've hit a total of three with my Malibu (same basic car) and finally ended up with a complete bodykit. Most were a bit slower but still no fun. As far as your car doing it right will take a fair amount of effort but it will end up fine. Suggestion - if the entire roof is going to be replaced you may want to look at getting a sunroof version...

Wow, that's one heck of an impact from a deer!

That's exactly what I was thinking!!

Isn't every car fixable? It's just a matter of being worth it? Doesn't look to bad (minus the roof...). Also looks like you'll need to replace the windshield wiper stuff too...
Kinda amazing how the deer hit the side of your car, hit the windshield, tore of the roof, but the hood looks like it doesn't have a scratch on it!

Wow! Glad to hear you are ok. That's a very bad hit.
Now that the roof is being replaced you could consider a convertible top or sun roof.
What happened to the dear? Are you going to eat it or sell it to someone who will? Seriously!

LOL you guys are hilarious. I was thinking of doing a sunroof conversion. The cop asked me if I wanted to keep the deer and have it mounted I just laughed. I do have the deers antler that broke off and landed on my floor as a keepsake. I just found a 2004 alero with minor front damage I can pick up for 1500 dollars so I think I may get it and swap my front bumper cover on it for now. It only needs a bumper cover, washer fluid bottle, and ac condenser. Do you guys think thats a good deal?
Clutch1- yep im in wausau but cant say I have seen your car around.

Depends on the miles and what motor.
Mines a 2000 V6 with 156K on it and I expect to get about $1,800 when it does sell.
Amanda02
07-14-2010, 06:58 PM
Its a 2004 and has 120k miles with the 3.4 v6, its a one owner car. Not sure what the person hit with the car though.
Ryan from Ohio
07-14-2010, 07:05 PM
I wouldnt pay more than $1K for it.
THis is how I look at it...
If you were going to take that to a body shop its gonna cost a minimum of $1K to get that fixed up.
Whats the car worth fixed? Maybe $3500... Theres a reason this isnt fixed...

i'm not sure if your problems will buff out, zzy....
and i'm shocked at the lack of leg humping in this thread. The forum certainly isn't the same as it used to be.
i say keeps yours, fix it (obviously) and go from there. no reason to have another problem around.

i say do it go pik a bumper from a parts yard, take it to a bodyshop and have it matched.

Do you guys think it would be a decent deal if I could get that alero for a grand? My alero will be fixed for me for free by my future father in law but it may take a few months so I need a car in the mean time and cant find too many beater cars that are decent in the 1,500 dollar price range.
Ryan from Ohio
07-14-2010, 07:46 PM
Buy it for $1K, drive it as is or find a replacement bumper cover the same color.
Then when your car gets fixed sell this for profit.
win-win
Since Dr Cherry called it...
Where your pics at?
Let it begin!

Back to the topic . . . if i take the bumper cover off my silver alero and buy that 04 how hard is it to swap the bumper cover? It should just be held on by clips right? I know the car may look ghetto but it would be temporary til I could get a gray bumper cover for it and at least I would have a car. I only got my scooter to get back and forth to work and its no fun when its raining out :(

I don't know about an Alero, but I've swapped bumpers on my 1995 Ford Escort more times than I can remember. It's very easy. I'd say easier than an oil change.

It'd be really easy to replace the bumper on that Alero, most of what holds it on was destroyed.

Welcome. We need more girls on this site
Glad you're OK and going to fix the car, even happier to hear that you like the Alero better than a Mustang GT ;)

the bumper isnt bad to take off....pull the headlights out (2 metal bars for each one that pull up, then pull the headlights out....after their out, you can get a small ratchet with a 10mm socket....3 10mm bolts that go DOWN into the bumper from the fenders....each side has 3. you can get the 2 front ones on each side from the headlight pockets....the back one you just pull the clips in the wheel well, move wheel liner aside and get the 10 on that bolt. along the bottom there are clips....2 clips behind where the license plate is... couple 10s on the bottom too i think..... but yea, bumper removal time will take u about 20-30 min depending on how fast u work ;) Good luck!
oh and check the radiator to make sure there is no damage....a lot of times when there is damage to the condenser there is damage to the radiator.....when u pull the condenser out CHECK THE RADIATOR VERY GOOD....top to bottom, side to side....check to see if its twisted or not..
Hope this helped!
