Airtex Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on my 2001 Alero has gone out (pretty sure it's the pump- car has 165,000 miles on original one). The shop I called gave me a price of $233.01 plus tax for the part only- brand is Airtex. Does anyone know anything about this brand? I've read some bad reviews on the internet- but no opinions from a forum such as this. If that brand is no good- can you suggest one? Trying to keep the price down as much as possible, but don't want to install junk. My fiance will change the pump for me- no need to worry about shop labor. Also am curious about pumps on eBay? Anyone have any luck?

Airtex is the brand we sell at NAPA. We've had really good luck with Airtex pumps and they're backed by a 1 year warranty. They're designed to meet or exceed OEM quality. They may be a bit noisier than your original Delphi pump but should last fairly well.

Delphi pumps (also available at NAPA) are generally only $100 or so more if you would prefer to go with OEM without paying OEM prices. Delphi will also last longer than the Airtex pump so it is definately worth paying the extra for.

One thing I liked about the Airtex pump was that it came with the factory connector for the plug on the pump. Other aftermarket brands you have to splice a new plug on the harness.

Yup we sell Airtex at AutoZone too, no complaints.

Isn't the upgrade wiring harness included, also?

Do you know of any other aftermarket brands that come with the factory connector and you don't have to splice a new plug? Also, I have seen several brands on eBay for about $100 less than the Airtex- any experiences/opinions on that? Is it worth the savings?

Don't go cheap on the fuel pump. This is one item that can easily cause more trouble/damage than the money saved. Installation itself is no fun and partial failure can cause engine problems. If you are going with a cheap one I suggest cutting an access panel in the floor while the tank is out so that you can change it in the future without removing the tank.

Its included but you have to splice it.

Since when do fuel pumps go out at 165,000 miles? The one on my Escort is still the original at ~195K. And if I ever need a new one, I can buy a Bosch replacement for something like $65 + postage.

I have 200,000 on mine (just hit it today) and it's the original.
