Hey everyone... been a long time since I was last here.

I have a question about my g/f's '01 Alero: The ON/OFF switch for the cruise control (on the steering wheel) is malfunctioning. If you push it to turn it "on," the switch will not stay engaged - thus the only way to can keep the switch in the "on" position is to push and hold the button in. Currently, my g/f has put a piece of tape there (until it can be fixed).

I was wondering if anyone has a write up or any information on how to remove the switch its self. I can order the switch from the dealership (and in the process bend over and take the price up the tail-pipe :wah: ) and if I know how to remove the old one and install the new one, I'll do it myself.

Thank you for any help.

in order to remove it, you have to remove the air bag on the steering wheel. nobody has attempted this yet.

Remove the airbag? Holy crappers! Guess if I have this fixed I'll have to let the dealership do it... man, that sucks to have to remove the air bag - taking mucho $$$ for just the labor for this one.

I have another question: Does anyone have the part number of the plastic trim piece that goes in the tunk where the latch is? I pulled the passenger side tail lamp assembly out to seal the casing (there was condensationg collecting in there) and when I re-installed the plastic trim covering I realized that two of the four snaps were broken.

The plastic piece I'm talking about goes on the bottom of the trunk ledge where the latch is connected to the frame (the plastic trim that has four snaps which sits directly behind the weather strip that goes around the perimeter of the trunk opening).

Thanks for the help.

if you pop the button cover off you can see how the switch works to keep the c/c engaged. Look at it closely while you push the button a few times and you will be able to see where you can put a tiny screw to hold the button down from the backside to keep it on. c/c will be on all the time but the cruise light on the dash is only on while you are cruising......... Sorry I didn't take pics while I had it apart.............
