Hi everyone, I have a small leak in one of my tires. I'm going to get it fixed this week but when trying to fill the tire using the small 12v 260 psi pump I bought at walmart, i keep blowing the cigarette lighter fuse.
It works for a minute then pop. I tried in my gf's sunfire with no issues.
When using the pump, the doors are closed, engine is running, radio and fans are all off.
The mechanic told me its probably a short in the lighter socket and suggested using the aux lighter socket.
Has anyone else had this issue or know how to fix? I'd like to have a working pump for camping and emergencies.
Thanks

Mine hasnt even worked in years so the short is probable. Good starting point at any rate.

most likely a short. or wires are too close, causing a short. its easy to get to, open'er up and check it out

And for sure I'm not putting in a fuse with a higher value!

also.. try using that module in another car. see if IT is causing the short. which is certainly possible.

Cherry he said that he had put it in his g/f car and didn't blow a fuse

I think cherry meant to unplug the lighter module and test it in another car to see if that's the culprit. Its worth a try. I'll switch with the aux.

Just went out to the car and found the one on the passenger side behind the oval. I knew there was a second one someplace, but I thought it was somewhere in the center console and didn't find it when I went looking for it on a previous occasion.

Gotta be a short in the cubby hole one, because they both run off the same fuse

Could also be the socket itself. Might be dirty, etc.

I'm thinking its the socket also. The guy I bought the car from is a heavy smoker and used it often.
There must be some ash or moisture that got in and is causing the short.
Thanks for all the help.
