First off i've done a few head units and things but i'm new to amps and subs so i'm a lil confused by the power ratings on this amp.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_23045_SoundStorm+-SSL-+EV1500M.html

I've looked at alot of amps but this is the first one i've seen with the rms rating at 4 ohms and the max power output at 2 ohms. so why are they different and should i get 2 ohms subs or 4?

That thing is a piece, avoid!

Agreed. There are way too many things to cover on this to explain why. lol

What are you working for with subs? I could probably help you scope out a few deals online. :)

well the thing is, i picked out a different amp for my girlfriend to buy me for my birthday. but when it was out of stock they offered her this as an "upgrade" and she took it so it's already on it's way. So i'm just trying to see if i can find some kind of use for it, instead of telling her she has to return it and pay the return shipping + 10% restocking fee.

I was originally gonna run 3 of these subs http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12080_Cerwin-Vega+Vega+102.html

with this amp

Just going to be honest because I want to help...

Three of those would give you an odd final ohm load, no matter how you wire them to a single amplifier. $70.00 X 3 = $210.00 for subs. Okay.

That amplifier... Honestly, for budget, i'd look into a more known and reputable company such as Maxxasonics products. (Hifonics, Crunch, MB Quart.) That amplifier is rated at 1100rms, but fused with 25 ampres, you would realistically see nothing more than 250 watts on perfect electrical at 2-ohms. Also, if that thing were to see a bit under 2-ohms, it would burn up real fast. Going back to your subwoofer decision, you would not be able to achieve a final 2-ohm load on three d2 voice coils. $80.00

Now my suggestions...

I have not put in hours of searching, but that is also something you can look into. Going off of what your original budget was: $290.00, I came up with this.

Subwoofers:http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Hifonics-ZX12D4-12-1000-WATT-DVC-Car-Sub-Woofer-/290460870013?pt=Car_Subwoofers_Enclosures#ht_2049w t_976

Two of these wired in parallel down to a 1-ohm final load. Rated 500rms a piece. (1000 total)

Amp:http://cgi.ebay.com/Crunch-GPV2000-1-Monoblock-Car-Amplifier-Amp-GPV-2000-1-/360290012022?pt=Car_Amplifiers#ht_2009wt_976

I have owned one of these personally in the past, they will honestly do close to rated power on a solid electrical. Rated 1000rms at a 1-ohm load.

I have personally ran both of these pieces of equipment in the past. The subs are pretty beefy for what you will pay for them, and for ease, they sounded great sealed.

Both items sold by sonicelectronix ebay store. Total cost: $300.00. Only $10.00 more than your original choices. And I am sure of these products, and sure you would be more satisfied as well. ;)

That sound storm amp is an upgrade as horrible as it may sound.

But its only 400 WRMS on its best day... Far cry from the 1100 WRMS they claim.

I would wire the subs up each one in parallel then series each sub to amp = 3 Ohm load. Now the trick is to guesstimate what amp will do 600 WRMS @ 3 Ohms. I would look for something that does 800 WMRS @ 2 ohms. Or just overshoot it and get something with even roe power and be modest with your gains.

You could of saved a lot of headache by asking for advice before purchasing.

Live and learn.

I got a whole package deal for $225 that would stomp out that setup with ease.

And this: http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32079

Those HFi subs do work for what they are priced. Saw a group buy on them a while ago for $20.00 a sub. Really beats the Hell out of anything else in its price range...

EDIT TO EMPHASIZE POINT BEING MADE.

At one point those subs were on a nice special.

For a $40 sub hard to beat. I have some even cheaper crunch amps to pair up with them also.

so is the system i was gonna run just bad or not gonna work at all?

so can i run 3 of those Cerwin Vega subs to this amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...-+EV1500M.html
(the original one that's unfortunately already on it's way) and if not what subs can i get for it?

Dude both of those amps suck. The soundstorm may get 400 WRMS the other maybe 200 WRMS.

Thats total WRMS output @ 2 Ohms.

If you ordered three of the planet audios then you would be set. But by the time you do that you could buy one better amp thats actually worth owning- like an American Bass VFL 80.1 Which is what you should be going after.

just get a JL sub and an amp it will hit harder than the 2 subs you want to get. but if you do not want to spend much money go with what cashdollar posted those amps ans subs are not bad at all.

Saying just get a JL sub and amp is pretty weak. At least spell out what amp and what subs.

He could end up with the bottom of the barrel stuff that sucks but still costs a premium...

ok he could get a JL w3 with a JL 500/1
or a Re audio 12 inch SX with a crunch 1000 watt amp

There we go :)

if he does not want to spend that much he could get 12 inch alpine type R and a alpine 500/1 amp. also he could get a kicker CVX 12 inch with a kicker which is 750 watts RMS and 1500 watts peak you could match it with a kicker 750.1

can i wire 3 of the cerwin vega subs to the Soundstrorm amp?

Ryan from Ohio
08-18-2010, 06:08 AM
Sure but it wont be good.

You would be best off wiring two subs to the amp and sending the third back...

subs are like boobs, their always best in pairs
