I'm having an issue that I believe is DRL related, but I'm not sure. First off, my DRL's don't come on at all, but my high beams work just fine. I replaced the relay for it, but that wasn't the issue.
That's not my biggest concern though. What drew my attention to the DRL's being out is that when my DRL's are supposed to turn on my high beam indicator flickers for about 5 seconds. Occasionally I get interference in my front passenger speaker as well.
Has anyone else encountered this issue, and are they related to each other? Thanks.
P.S. It's an 02

hmmm sounds like it could be in the turn signal/light switch maybe.. i took out my DRL's a long time ago i didnt see a use for em. and waste of bulb life. but my turn signal switch went out one night, it had a burning smell coming from the steering wheel. and when i would pull back on the switch to turn on brights (where when you let go they go back off) and the parking lights came on instead of the brights. it was weird. i went to oriley and they charge around 106$ for the whole piece. you can't get it in parts. but other people might know a different solution to this, mines just a thought.

On an 02 the drls are your high beams! 03-04 was the low beams I do believe. If during the day highbeams are lit up when running then switch to lowbeams when it gets dark your perfectly fine. Unless I'm just totally misunderstanding

I believe you are misunderstanding. My headlights work perfectly, I have both low and high beams at night. I just have no DRL's during the day and the high beam indicator on the dash flickers for about 5 seconds when they SHOULD come on (after I put the car in gear or the automatic headlights turn off).

the bright light indicator on your gauge cluster shouldnt be on during the day when having DRLs on they should just be on but you not knowing they are on. i have an 01 and when i did have DRLs there was no indication that says they were on. (i could also be misunderstanding haha) :)

I'm thinking its the sensor. Take a look at this link. Has a trouble shooting flow chart that might help.

Do you legally have to have drls? If not just do away with it totally

DRL's are not mandatory in the U.S. It is a good safety feature though,

This. Although I wouldn't mind if they could be removed with no side effects.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero Locate the DRL relay in the main fuse box under the hood, it is #22 corresponding to the diagram on the underside of the fuse box cover. Remove the relay, snip pin 87, and re-insert.
now i don't know if its the same for a 2002 or any other year. but i did this to mine and it got rid of them no problem and nothing else was affected when doing it.

Since I unneccesarily replaced the relay I may try this will the old one. Hopefully my solution is just that simple.

yeah you can remove that pin and everything will still work.. auto lights at night and everything that pin you cut off is just specifically for the DRL's so no harm done. :)

I believe you have to disable the DRL's because the HID's will just flicker during the day due to not enough power to light the ballast. Everything else should be fine.

You only have to disable the DRLs if they're on your low-beams. That means the earlier years are ok with them on.

Ok so my 01 with drl's in highbeams would be fine if i left them alone?

Sure would, unless you get HID high beams of course.

For anyone else who may have this issue, disabling the DRL's by snipping pin 87 on the relay appears to have fixed the issue. Thanks everyone for all your help.
