hey my B-pillars are in a nasty condition, and i was wondering as to how i would remove these. I have a sedan, and im probably just gonna rattle can them with some automotive paint from advance/autozone. I just need to figure out how to remove them without scratching or damaging something, so i can sand them down. Any ideas?

sidenote: searched, and couldnt find bdymans exact writeup, im guessing it was written years ago. found this link instead, and will have to go by this: http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27885&highlight=door+frame+applique for the weekend

Interested in the outcome.

Do 01-04 Cavailer 4 door "B's" come out the same way? My mom's car is looking like shit in this area :(

its possible.....its real simple to get them out, just have to be carefull. the color and clear coat are going to turn out great!

as for your moms j body, i think the easiest fix is buying the B-pillar overlay vinyl. hell could even spiff it up with a carbon fiber overlay.

if grahixworks is still around i know they have a huge selection of the vinyl overlays for an assload of Gm vehicles.

NO to the overlays for mom's car. She wouldn't like that.

I joke with her that I'm going to "hook up" her car. It gets her off my back about other things

ha, well if you really wanted to tackle that job, the cavalier was alot more simply designed, and im sure it would be just as easy or easier to remove. just sanding....really sucks....

plus, its a good opportunity really clean up the weather stripping.... or replace it

Is that texture paint, or just a glare?

looks like just a typical metallic flake to me

Yes just metallic flake no texture. but I have some bad news and some ever worse news.

Bad news - its gonna rain of and on throughout the week.... so this will take a while since I don't want to leave my weather stripping off in the weather.

The even worse news - I chipped the paint...... at the top of passenger rear and ill have to redo it.

On the other hand one side is installed for the time being and the other side is unpainted/stock

On another side note this clear coat appeared rather dull after it cured/dried so I might redo this with another clear coat...... don't know yet....... suggestions?

the write up should be "remove, bondo, sand, prime, paint by the looks of it but really good job from the one pic you posted im gonna have to look into it hopefully before winter. what paint did you use? I like that texture it has ( or metal flakeish I guess )

-Alero-
10-05-2010, 07:49 PM
why bondo? i dont have any dents or holes to fill?

Redog

Probably to just smooth it out more ;)

robalero
10-05-2010, 08:11 PM
you may not, but I do. the rust on mine had chewed the black part off and there is a layer difference so to make it even bondo will have to be used

-Alero-
10-05-2010, 08:22 PM
yeah i havent had any experience with bondo. so i would have a hard time using it for my first time on something i want to look good.

im wondering, if i should sand the primer, and the base. i also thought about laying a base coat after primer like flat black and then go over with the metallic black. possibly sand each coat.....i dunno i kinda wish it would stop raining so i could just work on it :(
