looks good... when i did mine though, i left the reflective strips clear, that way the cops cannot harass me (as much!!) for having tinted tail lights...

hmm you should have gone all the way around the light or atleast all along the bottom.. but its what you like;)
bmxer...you should wire up your inside tails to act with the brake lights as well, takes 2 minutes and looks much better.

gr1m I had them that way and the wires fell out so i will eventually wire them all back up again and motor city i will get some small ones to go along the bottom of the trunk lights

How are the strips glowing so much? Did you use a flash?
It would look awesome if our tails actually lit up that way.

that is really sweet. How did you do that, just tape off the strips??
That gave me an idea, if thats all you did how would doing what you did and also having the strips on the outside of the lights look???
robalero
10-30-2010, 08:17 AM
you just tape off the strips before doing it, really not that hard just takes a little bit of patiences. took me longer to do that then tinting my tails

ok thats what i though, cuz i dont want to copy what you did, i was thinking the reflector strips that are around the lights and the one you taped off, you think that would look nice, or just odd?
robalero
10-30-2010, 11:12 AM
honestly I thought of it too but I thought it would look odd, don't worry its ok to copy its not a math test :P

probably wire it up to your 3rd brake light. I should do that

probably wire it yup to your 3rd brake light. I should do that
yes there is an empty pin hole on the trunk mounted bulb socket. i took a piece of wire and stripped the casing back about 2 inches, folded it, and stuck it in the pin hole. then i just used some silicone to keep the wire in place. after that you just run the two wires to the power wire for the third brake light, tap into it and done. you have to change the bulb to a 3157 though because it obviously needs to be a dual filament.

what gauge of wire did you use?
hok666
02-05-2011, 01:05 PM
I think autozone sells 16ga that might be good enough
yes its pretty thin, i would recommend using hot glue rather then silicone as previously mentioned, the cure time for silicone is way too long for that job.

i agree hot glue would be faster. reason i used silicone was my car was going to be sitting for a few days and i figured the silicone would last longer.

if you look at the bulb plug for the inner tail light you will see an empty hole with no wires going into it. i folded the wire just to make sure it would make good contact inside the plug
ya got a pic by chance?
ill snap a few pics tomorrow when its lighter out.

here ya go fellas. don't mind the wire mess its temporary until it gets warm out and the brown shit is from old sound dampening material.

02-06-2011, 01:19 PM
In the second picture did you just splice into the blue factory wire?
alero_bmxer
02-06-2011, 01:21 PM
yep both of the wires coming from the inner tails are spliced into the positive wire for the third brake light. i made my own 3rd brake light so thats why there is another set of spade connectors.
