very nice, how much did this cost him? (if you don't mind me asking, I want to turbo my car someday, and this seems like a good step)

I'm guessing that would make that a 'yes'?

N/A for now. trying to talk him into the gm sc kit
yeah new rod, main, ballence shaft bearings.
the reason for this build is the motor had a rod knock.
crank had to be turned 10 under.
asc did the port and polish. they are a local shop here.
takes them a while to get things done because they are so busy but its worth the wait.

not sure exactly it was a piece by piece deal
some parts he bought, some I supplied, some were from the machine shop.
I want to say he spent roughly 2000-3000 on everything
gm gaskets were used up top
fel-pro on the cover and bottom. also new water pump, coolant, oil, new plugs, labor etc are in that price guess.
port and polish was 400 or so on the head. plus the valve job and all the valves, springs locks and retainers on top of that price.
this project took a while due to waiting on parts, waiting on the machine shop, an the fact I work full time outside of apoc.
but it definately paid off.
this thing gets up for a 2.4L

hey guy's i'm the one with the motor build. Its n/a and probably will be
for a little while until i catch with with my $$$$$. thing runs great
even some of the little sounds the stock motor made are gone.
it gets up right from the start and pushes all the way till it shuts off.
i almost want to pay the extra just for the govna to get taken off.
already have my 2.25" carsound cat now i need to get my pacesetter
header just need a little more $$$$. then the tb,q4 mani, header and cat.
will be in. that is when i will dyno. let you guys know how it turns out.
cost was about $ 2500.00 w/o header,cat,mani and tb.

yeah
I'd definately look elsewhere
either induction dynamics for the part (although expinsive i've had good luck with them)
the heads I had done locally for a 3400 took a while because of manley being behind but everything fit right.

If you have more work needed for the TwinCam you might wanna try http://www.jbodyperformance.com/. They seem to have a lot of high-end valvetrain components as well as plenty of other stuff.
Induction Dynamics looks like they have an exellently ported head, and they claim it's one of the best flowing ones you can buy, but it's very expensive, and any other experienced shop could probably do just as well porting the restrictive TwinCam head given enough time. And I didn't know you could buy just the valvetrain from ID, either.
NATIVE, I know you got your hands full for now, but if you have a good ported head and an upgraded valvetrain, you might also want to look into some cams that are for sale on the jbodyperformance site I listed above, moving the powerband up in the RPM range should really net you better horsepower numbers. A 6500rpm redline is too low for a high performance N/A 4-cylinder.. :P
(And even the "secret cam swap" doesnt really give you a higher usable powerband, just fattens up the middle, mostly...)
