Dash before
http://i54.tinypic.com/5ea9mu.jpg

Dash after, I had to use atlest 5-6 coats of high built primer
and alot of sanding to get the piano smooth look finish, mirror like almost
for the dash had to add some flex to paint since dash has soft material to prevent any cracking.

nope dont even know what fg is mby in a different term, just did some surface sanding very gently since material may shred so primer would stick alot better,
use high build primer with flex to fill in the textured detail then wet sand for the smooth finish, then sprayed with high gloss black with a coat of clear with flex added so it wont crack when being pressed on

deffinity dosent fit in to well with the body paint, but im looking to go with new paint soon, or get it wrapped. i took on some minor body damage due to road conditions so i may ned to replace body kit if its to expensive to just repair when i go in for new paint or wrapping. i was thinking black paint with kawi green accent, powder coat rims black and leave the lip kawi green, idk yet, i have alot of idea's before it goes in

LOL gotch ya, yea its all painted, but not a shitty job though, took me a month or so, didnt stick to one color either if thats what billy did, cant do to much of one color, with me filling in the texture and making it smooth really came out 100% better than leaving it with the texture on it, not just the dash but all the plastic peices in the car as well, the dash and center concole are high gloss black, everything else such as vents in dash inserts are all kawi green, the doors are the only thing i have left to finish, ill post finished pics soon as i take em.

So you just sanded the vinyl and primer or took vinyl off then built up the plastic?

For the dash? yes I left the vinyl on, I very lightly wet sanded it for primer to stick better, I used a high build primer with flex added to be able to flex with the vinyl, About 5-6 coats in between sanding or to the disired smoothness you would like, my preference was getting a mirror like finish after paint.

Lol that's a weird technique.

Lol that's a weird technique.

its a technique that works. Nothing really weird to what i did to get the results. Its very effeciant as well to for the cost of only paint and time. only other way to do it is to wrap it or put new vinyl on witch would be impossible to do without proper stiching to eliminate any creases, dash has to many odd curves to wrap it without stiching.. taking off the vinyl is a bad idea for the fact thats the inserts and such are fitted to fit with the vinyl. so if you plan on taking vinyl off, then be ready to do some filling for proper fitting. Later down the road when i get some experiance i wanna mold a new dash with fiberglass. This was my first project doing what i did to my car, it took awile to get the painting down and the finish i wanted but i practiced enough to get it perfected and thats how my results were, flawless.

Well as long as it works! Fiberglass is def a better way, I forsee that way cracking eventually. But if it doesn't, even better!

thanks fellas for the feed back,
yea taking decals off when i finally go for paint, as for headers, havent found any for this motor, i seen a set that somebody was making on this site awile back, but cant find post.
im not to worried about the cracking on dash cause there is enough flex in paint to prevent that from happening. only thing im really worried about is when it get hot inside that the paint's gonna bubble up, but it hasnt happend yet and its reached over 90 some days. but you never know. but yea i want to fiberglass it, was actually thinking of buying just a dash for an alero, and practice molding a dash. would rather do it myself to get experiance in it like i did with the interior painting. it keeps me busy its fun, and it saves money.

:haha: good luck, I remember learning to use glass, I never want to touch it again..but I assume it would be a good little project

Glass is great minus the sanding and the cutting... those are so dusty and itchy it's terrible. The layup is always cool though.

Thought you had to use special paint for leather/vinyl? Otherwise stayed sticky/cracked peeled off
