I know Ive talked before about wanting a train horn- I am finally gearing up to do it.

I will be using a Kleinm setup as my distributor is now carrying them.

Im going to do either the Kleinn 99 or 130. Im going to go with the Kleinn 6120 110 PSI all in one air pressure system. Total cost will be $190-230 depending on what horn I go with. Both are right around 150 dB with 100 psi.

I know there are a few people on here who have had train horns. Any opinion would be appreciated.

I have one question. If I dont have the tank filled and want to use it, start the tank fill process how long does it take to fill until its ready? How many honks can I get until I need to let it refill?

it depends, im not sure what those kits include, but there are a few thing you need to figure out:

how big is the tank? the bigger the tank, then obviously longer to fill it
how many compressors? more compressors = less filling time.
what rating pressure switch? if the compressors fill until a high PSI like 185 or 200, then your tank will obviously take much longer to fill then say a 145 PSI switch.

now, you need to ask those questions and piece out a setup. i have hornblasters 4pc set and they will run down to about 80psi, but i do have a 5gallon tank @ 200 psi so i can hold down my horns for pretty long before it gets dangerously low for me (i say for me because the height of my suspension is dependent upon the PSI in my tank, you wouldnt have this problem because you have coil suspension)

anyway i have a dual viar setup (380c i think?) compressors and it will take about 10-15minutes to go from empty to 200psi (most people will say 200psi is overkill for it but i like to have more air to work with)

One viar 380 took my 3 gallon like 10mins to fill up and also had the hornblasters

thats only a 105/85 PSI switch, you might want to upgrade it depending on what that tank is rated max psi.

I didn't even run a pressure switch. Just used a guage and a on off switch. But yeah I'd want more then 105 it'd still het the job done but not as good

OK maybe I will go up the chain another pump.

This tank is another $40...

Seems better would get a 200psi tank but since horns seem to be rated at 100psi didn't notice that. That 110 off will be fine unless they say horns can handle more psi. But a bigger tank would be nice more play time:) without hearing the damn compressor turn on. My buddys wanting to trade me the hornblasters kit and everything back for some stuff I have. Intersted in that 4 horns viar 380 and maybe 7gallon tank (don't remembe why he has) guage and SMC valve

For sure providing the price is right...
