where is the best wire to tap into for a remote turn on for an amp? i'm using the stock head unit out of a 99. pictures would be nice... trying to finish this before dark... so the sooner the better, thanks

and what size fuse should i use in the amp power line for a 200w rms fosgate amp?

not exactly sure where you would find a remote turn on line for a factory deck...I'm not sure if there even IS one...I know my JL amp has a signal sensing feature that eliminates the need for a remote turn on line.

didn't you get the manual for that amp? in the manual it should list the size of fuse required to power it. I'm guessing 30 amps, but that's a ballpark guess.

all you need is a wire thats only hot when the key is on. i.e. antenna, etc... i just dont know which wire is which.

and you think 30amp will handle it? i have the manual, it doesnt say

I just used the radio acc fuse in the passenger side fuse panel.
Your remote wire should be small enough to wrap the end of the wire around one of the fuse posts and push it back into place. I'm running 2-amps a crossover and a relay supplying a power inverter and my in-dash screen off of this.

i guess i could do that, but i want all the wires to run neatly together on the drivers side under the molding...

I ran a little wire that came in my fosgate kit and my 600w fosgate amp. I hooked it to one side of the radio fuse in fuse box. then hooked a $2.50 switch I got from radio shack and ran the rest with my fat power wire to the amp. So now we can turn the amp on and off when I want, my wife really likes that part. When I had my factory stereo I ran a wire from the right fac, 6-9 and put it with the high side of the amp instead of rca's. a little ghetto but it hit like crazy for about 8 mo.then got new deck. :smokin:

Also the switch I got was a little round push button and I opened a little hole with drill and it screws in and cant even see it. The radio fuse is all i'm using.

It's for a 2003

Here's the basics..Same as a grand am if you've done one of those..Let me know if you need any other info.

cant i just use a wire for the antenna booster or something? i dont know why everyone wants to make this complicated... lol, i just need a wire color on the radio harness.

the problem with tapping into one of those wires is you mat get a thump when you turn the key over........usually it goes like this.....ignition, then radio, then amps, that little delays saves the amps from any ignition turn on crap and that infamous thump......

ok, so i need to tap into the pink ignition wire in the harness on top going through the firewall?

no, just planned to swap for aftermarkets, because no matter what bulb you put in the stock foggers, it still looks like sh*t.

Look in your manual for tha amplifier. If it states that you have a soft turn on or silent turn on then any 12 volt accessory wire would do. This is common relay on almost all recent amplifiers. The only problem with the antenna booster is that it may not stay on during cd playback. Some cars have it active with the radio while others only stay active with the radio input. If you have a meter then just see if a 12 volt signal is present on the wire after switching sources. Some of our newer radios are pretty advanced. The new GM models are required to have a windows based flash to upgrade the firm ware. these will shut off all 12volt sources that are not in use to eliminate noise in the system.

Ur gonna fuck ur car up... the remote turn on should be a Blue wire. or if its stock it might be Teal/Dark blue.. or just go to like Circuit City or Bestbuy, and ask them, if u really want to do it urself... I know that on an Aftermarket Head/Harness it will be a blue wire for the Remote Turnon, and as far as i know the stock is Teal, because if u got the Sound pack, with the alero it comes with an Amp, and that had remote turnon i believe.

But if u start splicing into ignition wires, becareful wut u wire to it, because if that gets shorted out, you be in trouble..

Cuz i shorted something out when i Rewired my speakers, and had to replace like 5 fuses to get the radio AND speakers working again and somehow the Parking lights.

i think he got it by now. But just for other peoples' notice, never wrap a wire around a fuse and stuff it back in. Buy some fuse tabs.

Calm down little one, his car was totaled a few years back and as far as I know his wiring was fine when his car was slammed. I believe he drives a Audi TT know if you are wondering.

Easiest of all. I had a fuse that comes with a wire already together I used the radio fuse slot put the matching fuse with the pig tail and used that. It's that simple. No need to get that deep for a remote wirej, and you only have to fuse the wire at 3 to 5 amps in you want.
