some show all the trouble lights even when they're not lit up, just black cutouts, others have a transparent white over them, and you can only see them when lit, like stock, only white. i'm also looking for which ones these are.

I ahve heard bad things about the Import Intelligence White Face Gauge Overlays but the other 2 have no review. And there are somethings about the S/R Motorsports Indiglo Gauges, and the S/R Motorsports Indiglo Halo Gauges on the indidlo guages there is a option of 2 and 6 color and on the Halo Gauges are either analog or digital what are the differences.

i would go with the halo gauges...thats what i have in my car and i have no complaints...

The import intell are the total white ones.

I have them but I don't like them too much anymore, because you can't see the warning lights. They go on like window tint and you have to remove the needles to put them on.

I want the Speed Hut gauges now

True they are expensive but just remember, you get what you pay for

I just recently purchased a set of the I I white faces, but have yet to put them in mainly because I'm not done cutting the flames for them. ( The guy who sold me my vinyls gave me a 6" x 18" strip of the vinyl he cut them out of, so If I needed something to match, there it was. ) Anyways, I'm cutting some gold flames to go in there aswell, but I'm pretty sure these guage faces don't let the warning lights shine through. ( which SUCKS )

get the halo or regular indiglow gauges. They're cheap and nice. I used to sell these off here, but my supplier stopped selling em. I might again, if the demand is there.

the speedhuts are gorgeous, but very expensive.

well it looks like ass when all the trouble lights are cut out and show up black.

if you say so. Most ppl don't mind them. They're 1/3 or less of the price. I'm saying if you can afford speedhuts, go for it. If not, the halos and indiglows are great options. Either option is better than II overlays which are just stickers. I was one of the first to get the II overlays custom made. They looked decent, but I like the halos much better.

you could always tint the warning light section. ;)

are those the halo gauges that image Grouch? and where did you get that carbonfiber bezel?

Grouch
08-17-2004, 02:15 PM
Yes. They are the 1st generation halo's that Naich sold.

Speedhut. Not sure if they have them listed on their site, but if you call they have it. Least they used to and it is sooooo much easier to install than the aluminum one.

I got a sweet deal on the II overlays ($15.00 shipped ), so that's why i'm going that route. ( I'm a cheap bastard, i know ) That's why I'm gonna customise the overlays with the flames, I can't afford the real deal. LOL

I think I will be getting the speedhut gauges. What do you guys think about blue face with white lettering with the small oldsmobile simbal on the speedometer and on the tach costum text that says OSV but the OSV looks kinda cheezy. go check it out and tell me what you think.

Vtolds
08-17-2004, 11:25 PM
Actually it looks like the OSV would be right where the high beam light is and the check oil light so it wont work.

i've seen the guages you're reffering-to, and I really like'm, all but the price. ;) If even the speedhut guages effect warning light scenario, I'm glad I'm customising the cheapys.... :)

If you are getting the II's, be prepared for a tough installation. They took like 2 hours to install correctly. Splitting the backing from the black overlays is tough to do right without creasing the plastic. Just a fair warning :) Good luck customizing htem though.

Those look Awesome I didn't even think about doing Alero has my text maby I will do one Gauge OSV and the other Alero so would read OSV Alero:) how long did it take to install the speed hut gauges and how did you do it? did they just slide over the needles and double side tape then on or what?

Vtolds

I still cant find the Carbonfiber bezel anywhere. Where did you get them?

Vtolds

the gauges have been ordered to the toon of $97.95 The cool blue gauges with OSV on the Tach and Alero on the Speedo just like I wanted in Swis Font.

Time for install was roughly an hour or a little more. It was my first time, if I did it again it wouldn't take as long. You take out your gauge cluster and then pop of the plastic top piece held in by tabs. Then, as you said, you put the provided double sided tape on the back and feed the needles through the holes.

The most important thing is getting the placement right. I would actually buy a little extra double sided tape just in case you need to reapply. Make sure all the holes line up with the corresponding instrument lights. Then when lined up good, press down good. Then connect the wires from each of the four gauge pieces. They just snap together into on daisy chain wire. Very good design.

Then splice your power line into a power source. I just spliced mine into my Headunit power so that it's on all the time but some people just want it on when the lights come on so you could splice it into your cubby hole light. Then just run the ground to a bolt clost by and mount the gauge control unit wherever. Alot of people find it easy to mount it into the little ash tray drawer under the fog light switch.

As far as the carbon fiber bezel, here is a link to one on ebay that it like mine. Carbon Fiber Bezel (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7916655115&category=43951&sspagename=WDVW)

Installation of the bezel is a snap. Take of the top plastic piece, peel off tape on the back of the bezel, feed it through the holes, line up, and press down. Some people trim a little off the bottom of the bezel just so it fits a little better but you really don't need to.

Phew...okay I'm done. Let me know if you have questions.

Speedhut. They don't have it listed on thier site. But if you call them you can order it. If I recall it was a buck or two cheaper than the aluminum version.

I ordered the bezel of ebay and it was twice the price of the Speedhut one that they actaully list. I did all my ordering in the moring before I went to work so calling and ordering was o0ut of the question at 8:00 AM east. what someone should do is buy a bunch of them and sell them on ebay for a couple bucks more

Hey grouch, I like what you did with your gauges. I'm one of the lucky ones that has the original halo's like yours, also just snared me the carbon fiber bezel. I'm a bit curious about the needles though. You said that you painted yours, but it thru them off because of the slight difference in weight. I was just thinking of going over mine with a red sharpie. Hopefully it would be translucent enough too that they would still light up at night.

As for tinting of the idiot lights, what exactly did you use and did you just put it directly on top of the overlays?

Grouch
08-19-2004, 03:20 AM
Yeah, painted them. Not sure it threw them off, but it made them impossible to see at night. lol I wouldn't recommend painting. I'm sure the sharpie would be a better choice though.

Tinting the overlays. Yes I applied the tint directly to the overlay. Make a good guesstimate of the size/shape you need; set the overlays in the cluster; place the bezel over the gauges; and trim as necessary to get the bottom tint line behind the bezel. ;)

I did mine with 35% tint. You can't readily see the white behind the tint like you do in the pics unless the sun is shining on them. And I can see the idiot lights perfectly during the day when they light up.

how did you hide the gauge wires? I havent took it apart yet but I like to know how to do it before I do it.

mdodge
08-24-2004, 08:45 AM
They just run behind the the gauge cluster and behind the the dash. You won't have any trouble hiding the wires. The wires are fairly long so you can mount the control unit alot of places. I put mine in the ash tray below the fog light switch just because it's easy to access and easy to install there.

Vtolds
08-25-2004, 06:45 PM
I cant seem to get the top plastic piece of so I can put in the Carbon fiber bezel it looks to be seeled down. How did you get it off?

mdodge
08-25-2004, 07:02 PM
I'm not sure if this is what you mean but, you don't take off the clear plastic piece. Just the whole top piece that comes off by pushing the tabs. You then feed the carbon fiber bezel through the gauge holes. Don't worry it bends easily without breaking. Kinda tricky to get it all pushed down but just work with it and you'll get it.

Where did you run the power and ground?

I power and grounded striat fromt the power and ground for the ash tray light it seemed to be the most obvious place to do it. My head light started to flicker a while back probably when I put in my amp but i disconnected it and it seems to do it still.

Your Dash lights are different than mine I was looking back at your pics and your needles are orange and mine are white and my gauges light up a aqua color and not a blue and when I switch my switch to the off position it lights up green and when it is lit up green the switch doesn't hum. it is kinda wierd.

mdodge
08-25-2004, 11:42 PM
Actually I have the intelliglow needles, they are actually red in person. My gauges are also aqua in person...just hard to tell from pics. The switch has a button that changes the color from blue to green..(really just blue/green). Then there is the brightness nob. I would try running your power to the fuses, the wires should reach okay. Although this will cause the gauges to light up all the time but, I do it that way and it works good. And make sure your grounding is good, a good bolt nearby will do.
