Ok so im thinking of starting a alero project. first off is to swap the oldsmobile front clip to the grand am gt one with the ram air hood. Next would be make the hood so it work as it should have from the factory. Put the the grand am wing with some nice looking rims. Paint would look like the 1970 442. Silver with black stripes. For the motor wanting to cept it a good on gas and not a horse power freak. Not sure at this moment what to do to it, maybe just a rebuild (car has 126k) but with a few mods here and there. But im just looking for some ideas for you guys. Thanks and ill cept you updated.

I don't like your ideas......You are wanting to put an Pontiac front clips on an Oldsmobile and then paint it like a classic oldsmobile 442, and not give it any power? ohhhh........

well the grand am hood and wing are close to the 1970 442.

closer than anything available, yes, because nothing is available!!!!

I just hate to see the alero chopped up with pontiac parts....

and if you must, at least paint it a decent 1970 color, not silver.....sheez...

Like this color, p38!! oh so sexy!

i have found this out while looking on the web for parts. no one makes alot of aftermarket parts for the alero. And the silver was just a idea, thats why i posted it on here. That is a nice blue, but as you see its someone did a alero in that color. But im looking for something that wont stand out in a parking lot unless you know it. And that blue is a eye catcher. The black with gold or black with white is sleeper. But im just getting ideas at this moment

And about the power factor, as i said i want to cept it a gas save. So if i could have 300 horse power while getting good gas i would be happy. but as it stands a factory 3.4L gets no way close to that. I dynoed mine on a dynojet and it got 126 hp and 176ftlb.

I know, it's one of my old Alero's, and the color is more turquoise or teal, than blue. '71 Viking blue is a sexy color, so would '70 w30 ralleye red.

Your torque number seems high....

I actually woldn't mind seeing a GA SE front clip on an Alero, with an 05 front bumper. That's going to be as close as you'll get to a "factory freak" kind of look. And personally, I wouldn't go with an SC/T hood.

I have to agree with Kyle on this.

Silver is silver. It was silver in 1940, silver in 1970, silver in 2001, and guess what, in 2030 it will still be silver.

Trying to do a look alike of a 70 442 is a good idea, but using a Pontiac front clip to do it, not a good idea.

The car dynoed at 126 hp? It's a 4 cyl right? That's very low for a V6 which should be around 147 at the wheels. Torque does seem too high for a stock Alero

Klye, we all know your love affair with Paint code P38. Does Linsey know? I mean I think if you could marry it, you would

If your saying you nobdy makes aftermarket parts for the Alero, you don't know where to look. True there is no hood option, but you are saying there's nothing. Nowadays, you can mod ANYTHING

Couldn't agree with you more Ken. Im just excited cause im getting a CF Cowl Hood from Kyle....needs some fixing on the back corners but i plan on painting the top and sides of the hood maroon....then leave the sides of the cowl CF. Im pretty pumped! :) Car is in the shop right now getting the suspension restored....sorry im getting off topic lol.

BTW i thought the 3400 has over 200 ft lbs of torque? you really lose that much power through the wheels?! damn.....

The usual figure is 20% of the power is lost by the time it makes it to the road with an automatic trans.

So it seems like everyone on here hate the idea of a alero/grand am vehicle, but you know what i like the idea. ever since i bought my alero i have been looking at that front clip and been wanting to change it. i came on here for ideas and it seems you guys dont even want to look into it,think about,or even give good feedback. but im going for it. i want to make it a custom, dont want to be like everyone else. but hey thanks :D. this is given me more motivation

I say, do it if it's what you want to do... the goal is to get your car the way you want so it will be unique

It's not the truck's fault. I was thinking the owner or concept designer.

There's a reason a large portion of us hate the idea. It's because many of us are Oldsmobile FANATICS. We love our Oldsmobiles, we do a little modifying here and there, some of us do A LOT of modifying. but in the end, everything about the car we love screams OLDSMOBILE. Just imagine somebody at your Christian church thinking it's a great idea to get 666 tattooed on their kids' foreheads, wanting to show it off and be proud of it, but can't figure out why everybody else in the church doesn't like it.

And besides. There are certain things that just don't go well together. I think we need to get one of our really good Photoshop experts to put together a series of good chops from different angles that will look realistic and show exactly how badly the lines and designs will not compliment each other.

ya who cares what everybody says its your car customize it the way you want to not the way other people want. who cares if they do not like it. I am glad it motivated you .

now THAT I can agree with. it IS your car, and it IS your expression. All I'm saying is don't expect a bunch of people in here to be excited about it, like it, or tell you how great it looks when you get done.

I also say, how many people are "more motivated" to invest time, money and labor into something "just because everyone else is going to hate it". You might be excited about it at first, but in the end, you'll probably get tired of people ragging on it and start hating it too.

Go for it, and good luck. I think it would be cheaper, easier, and better looking to graft a section of the scoops you like from the GA into the Alero hood and call it a day. But hey, that's just MY opinion, and you go ahead and do what YOU want.

That sums it up perfectly. Very few people can understand why I'm making my Tacoma right hand drive. When they ask why I'm doing it, I say "because I want to". That's all that matters.

I was close to doing it since need bumper fenders and headlights. Went to buy it and actually found some alero fenders so stuck with an alero saved me $40 by not getting ga hood and headerpanel.
Would of look kinda strange but wouldn't of cared. Just the front bumper has those ribs on it aleros don't

^ 04-05 GA's have the same design as the alero, they got rid of the plastic molding and gave it the same body line...

For some reason Aleros don't hold their value as well as Grand Ams do, at least here in the midwest anyway. When I bought my Alero 2 1/2 years ago a comparably equipped GA was gonna cost me 1-1.5K more. And at the time I was looking to buy a GA because of their styling.

Didn't know that about the last ga's. Actually don't think I've seen one lol. This front looks better to me then what you posted I dunno just does to me.

*please resize the picture*

If are going to go thru the trouble of doing it why not get body kit front bumper? Pls not andys style kit.
